sigur rós, múm and björk are defenitely my favourite bands! and i think its so nice because you can really hear somehow that they are from iceland ^_^ at least thats what i think. whenever i listen to their music i immediately imagine the icelandic nature, all calm and beautiful.
another musician from iceland who i really adore is ELECTROLL

i love mum, they're sound is so unique! Has anyone heard "We have a map of the piano", I think that's such a great track. And I loooove Bjork, she's amazing! Why is it that the Icelanders have such a unique sound?

I'm half Icelandic... one reason why Icelanders can be slightly odd (in a good way!) would be because of how isolated the island is/has been. There's also this joke that says that all Icelanders are a bit crazy because of the midnight sun in summer! Also, everyone is related so that might make icelanders a bit special! These are just my theories ^_^

"We All Have a Map of the Piano" is wonderful.
By the way, if you ever have a chance to see Sigur Rós live, don't hesitate! I saw them last summer and it was truly magical.

Great thread! :flower:

Yeah I heard that it's mainly because of how isolated the island is. I also heard Iceland has the purest gene pool, interesting that.
Yes I would love to see Sigur Ros live, where did you see them?

I live in Belgium, so I saw them last summer at Rock Werchter festival.

I'm not sure you can compare Icelandic music with Brooklyn or London music, it's so different! :P

'dis'

I think it's very hard to put things on a scale like this. It's easier with say, fashion.

Ireland has a great music scene and it's tiny too :P
