In flight travel essentials!

as long as all your liquids are under 100ml it's okay. but you can't take too many liquids either, cause you have to stuff them all into a 1 liter plastic ziploc baggie and lemme tell ya, those baggies is MINISCULE! teensy tiny!

Take one 100ml max perfume with you, that should be enough. else, either get small containers and fill them up with your normal skincare products which you think you'll need on the flight. I also like to stuff all kinds of sample sizes with me on planes. Just ask at a shop where you shop a lot for said products and ask them for some.

Thanks for that! :flower:

I'm going to Buenos Aires this Saturday and I'm confused as to how I should carry my makeup and beauty products. Can I carry more than 100ml worth of liquids per product if I put them into my checked lugagge? Is it ok/safe to carry my makeup items in my carry on? I'm lost. :(

you can check all the liquids you want, but in your carry on you can only have the 1quart bag of 100ml bottles > less.

your welcome!
yeah ive had them through out my shampoo once because i forgot to check it.. it was nice bumble&bumble stuff to.. sniff sniff

So you can have like 10 3 ounce bottles as long as they fit in a quart bag?

I was told nothing under 1 ounce. I make sure of that, because I'm not going to risk bringing my expensive creams on (I NEVER let beauty products go underneath the plane, as my creams are in glass jars, so its always a carry-on) and then have them say, "This is 1.7 oz. We're throwing it out."

Can you imagine what the airport employees salvage from what is taken from travelers?

From tsa.gov. These are the regulations that all airports are using now:

Make Your Trip Better Using 3-1-1

3-1-1 for carry-ons = 3 ounce bottle or less (by volume) ; 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3 oz. container size is a security measure.
Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening.
Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.
3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.
Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula and food, breast milk, and juice are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.
Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at security checkpoints.
TSA working with our partners. TSA works with airlines and airports to anticipate peak traffic and be ready for the traveling public.

My brother and uncle work at the airport and after 30 days or so they get to have anything that is unclaimed. I imagine there people get some really good stuff!

That's how I feel, my items are too precious for all that!

^Thanks for posting that iLoveCouture. It's very helpful. :flower:

You're welcome! I did some flying over the holidays and did lots of research so my stuff would not get comphiscated so I thought I'd share.

This should be the first rule on that list. -_- I detest going to airports anyway, and with these new guidelines they've got the wait time is even longer. It's so irritating and stressful. But it's all in the name of safety, right?

^^ Yes and yes

Just make sure to put your keys in your bag when you run it through security so you don't beep.

And powder blush is fine in any quantity.

I think they stole your stuff!! Seriously! I went online to a perfume board (LOL) and people on there are always buying perfume and flying with it and they said 1.7 oz and below was ok. And if that chart is right, 3 oz is a lot. There's no reason they should have seized your things.

Re: packing glass, I've bought bottles of wine before and put them into my luggage and they were fine. Just pack fragile things in the very center of the luggage with lots and lots of soft clothing around it (a towel is good). Frankly, some of these airport people are crooks. I'm sure this is a ploy to buy more duty free anyway, but still...

And my other in flight travel essential is a drink, wine/Scotch whisky.

Ive got a question!!

Okay so I'm a bit stupid with the whole bottle in a clear bag thing....i understand the size/ml/ounces size but can i bring a travel size tube of toothpaste?

They're not in clear tubes but its under the size regulation? Do i have to decant toothpaste into some sort of little jar or something?

Also, I love my tinted foundation, its super moisturising and it stops me from looking absolutly monsterous...again, if its under the size regulation is that all okay...or does it have to be decanted into a clear plastic something?

I'm sorry but how annoying...safe...but annoying!!

I'm flying long haul in October..about a 5 hour flight and then a 14 hour flight..YUK!

Here's my list-

  • International lis
  • Drivers Licence
  • Passport
  • Itinerary
  • Confirmation emails
  • Contact List
  • Camera
  • Eye Mask/Sheild
  • Socks
  • Baby wipes
  • Speedstick
  • Comb
  • Tooth brush
  • Toothpaste
  • Creme De Corps
  • Ear Plugs
  • Makeup
  • Palmers Dark Choc & Cherry Lip butter
  • Undies
  • Change of clothes
  • Tissues
  • Smooshy pillow/neck pillow
  • Lollies/Snacks
  • iPod
I know its a bit crazy but...come on...5 & 14 hours man!

lol

don't forget the essential, a HUGE pashmina scarf. so much better than those static-y blankets the airlines handout.

you can basically put anything into the 1 liter plastic bag, it's the only thing that HAS to be see-thru. i had an Evian Water Spray and tubes and stuff with me, all in non-see-thru packaging. that whole clear container thing is just in case you got product in a package over 100ml IMO. i fly a lot and never got problems. (except for that one time when i brought too many frag bottles with me. thank god all were 100ml and not more.)

have a good flight :flower:

PS: oh, and you might want to consider flip flops. best travel shoes known to me. bring flip flops and a pair of flats.

Bringing toothpaste and foundation is perfectly fine, just as long as the containers are under three ounces each and can all fit into one quart-size, clear bag. The containers of liquid do not have to be clear. Remember, you can only bring one quart-size bag on the flight. If you need to bring extra toothpaste or other liquids, you'll have to pack it in your luggage you're checking in with the airline.

Your list seems fine, but do note that your snacks must be in a 3 oz. or smaller container. You cannot bring drinks from home or drinks purchased before security screening.

Hope you have a great flight! The whole security process is always stressful, no matter how many times you go through it. When you're done with that part, the rest of flying is a breeze.
