New fabrics are being brought out every year but is this going too far?

Are fabrics starting to look too much NOT like fabrics and like something you could eat your dinner on?

examples:

I think most of these pics are FUTURISM which we have a thread on already...

I don't think I mind this at all... it looks good. It is rather exciting, I would like to try wearing many of the garments. Although futurism is close to this, and those same examples can be used to futurism, I think indrustialism is another field and definetily on the show in the season's collections.

I wonder why did this trend come now? Usually trends have an impact on something going on in the society, so what's behind this?

I wonder what kind of materials clothes could be made of. Frankly, the material I would love to see more clothes is paper :heart:

Yes I know that this is very close to futurism but I mean the fabrics more than the look..

It's like instead of coming up with softer fabrics each season the fashion designers seem to chose harder fabrics..

I have a hard time seeing this being a hit with "regular" people if it's not just used as accessory

It is not as easy to be used... but I would like to give it a try, especially tin foil.

i think that if it does spread into the mainstream, most people would adopt it for accessories, rather than clothes themselves...

i mean, you certainly couldn't get me to wear a t-shirt made of tinfoil in case i wind up looking like a turkey, but i definitely wouldn't mind carrying a bag of tinfoil for the kick of it :lol:

def true^

as long as it's as minimal as possible in clothes I think I could wear it, like a detail in the hem or something.. but I would never (probably) wear a piece made only of it
