She does speak Russian fluently; however, she was in Russia studying interior design, not fashion design. She went to a fairly prestigious art school in Riga, as well. I believe, but I'm not sure that she went to Moscow International Art School for college. Hope that helps!
Oh, ETA! Yes, you can learn Russian, but the cognates between the languages are difficult. Latvian is a baltic family language, whereupon Russian is Slavic, but this doesn't mean there aren't some cognates. I'm sure there a few words filtered in between all the families! From what I understand, a lot of people in Latvia understand and know Russian fairly well because of a. the former USSR (mostly the older generation) and b. proximity to the country.
