Geisha was/is traditionally a woman that looks after men/business people. They serve tea/food/ make witty intelligent conversation and perform most tasks needed to provide a person visiting a fine establishment with an excellent time. If you paid enough you could sleep with her but its not like a prostitute. You paid lots of money and efectively she became your mistress, you paid for her rent, clothing living etc
