The room i'm in will always affect my mood. If it's too cluttered i just can't sit down and concentrate. Although i do need a certain amount of mess. :P

Does anyone use any energy principles etc to design the layout of their rooms?

I wish I could, but it's so complicated! I can keep my 'zen' just by putting things away.

my mom knows some elements of feng shui and it is mainly applied to the house the building rather than the set up of the interior.
some things she pointed out was, never have the front door and the back door on the same vertical axis so the house wouldnt be "hollow", the bathroom is better to be on top of a kitchen so the 'water' can repress the 'fire' and your bedroom should be somewhat small because when you sleep, your energy is low and if you sleep in a big room, the negative energy will catch onto you easier than if you are in a small room.

^ that's really interesting about a small bedroom. I've always had a big one so maybe i should downsize! :P

yes, it's all a bit too complicated for me.
The only 'rule' i follow is not to have my desk situated so that i have my back to my door. Apparently that's not good (according to Feng Shui) although i think i also do it more out of paranoia too (not being able to see who enters from behind etc). Your desk should also apparently face the window.

I once went to this beautiful Zen restaurant and it was so beautifully simple in its arrangement. I thought it helped to create a really wonderful atmosphere.
