this is the first time i ever said i like Imitation of Chirst work.
i truly like the 80's inspired body-conscioused sportswear look ( paet of Patrick Kelley, part of Xuly Bet, part of Helmut Lang, imo.) such as hoody zipper jacket, little black dress ( my favorite) and big jersey with short skirt( very Tara Subokoff i must say.) the color themes in this category are very solid and simple, only black and grey. Besides the new fall collection,( in which Chloe Sevigny walked the first look) there were at least 10pieces that were very old IOC, that is, vintage beaded dresses, little bat wing top here and there, simply loyally followed the previous IOC path, so i wasn't impressed much. ( though they were very similar to what i just found from the $10 stores on my street.)

as for mens' collection, i personally liked it. ( i have to admit anyone can pull that off by going to Salvation Army, though.)

Male models masked with circus clown makeup, which was coordinated with the pre-show performance from a group of circus dancers, along with female models riding on the horse being brought in to the spot, the show was moody and somewhat melocholic (sp). The show was held in NY's Chelsea Pier 63, which was huge and freezing, mixed with the smell from the horse sh*t, i witnessed on the spot a sad, mellow, dreamy yet a more mature IOC show, so far the only collection i like.

i even think i'm so going to sport the IOC look for my spring outfits.
that's how much i like it.

I am so confused.

First, it was 25ºF (-4ºC) in NYC last night and people stood on a windy pier to watch? :?

Is IOC just Tara now or is Matt still partner?

Is the menswear also "re-worked" or is it original (and still ugly)? Also was the military theme that style.com talks of really just two fatigues and some green on other men?

Was the metaphor really just that the fashion world is a big ole' circus?
 If so, that is the most banal trash I'd never freeze my ar*e off to see. And congratulations to Tara! She may have shown a circus, but she created an insane asylum on that pier.

:? Ummm... huh? :x

There are some very pretty women's clothes, I'll admit, though most not for winter. They're more serious and relevant than previous collections offered.
She should stick to designing or re-working or whatever it is that she does. Plainly, the philosopher gig is bullsh**... subjecting everyone to hypothermia! Write your tirade on the invitation and spare the real victims.

i thought it was better than anythig they've ever done before but still not enough. i just get the impression that these guys (or this girl - who is ioc anyway?) don't spend too much time working on the clothes, they all seemed like they were made at the last minute.

this presentation wasn't that bad but certainly not deserving of the hype surrounding this label imo.

this is the outfit i enjoyed the most (i just wish i could see it better)

Xopher, i agree that fashion world is somewhat a crazy circus, your points are completely valid.

though i don't think that was Tara's original intention, she isn't that original as we all know it.

and as far as i know, Tara and Matt split, she is the only "creative director" of IOC now. ( good for her i said.) she seemed mellowed down quite a bit imo. but believe me, non of these clothes were ever designed by her, bunch of interns did the work, not her.

and yes, everyone in the Pier 63 was freezing our a*s off, you could literally see the models turned purple as they walked by. i wouldn't call the pier yesterday as an insane asylum, it was just very sad and moody, and i went there to my friends, and of course no one would have time to mourn over the sadness of the show, once it was over, people rushed out of the spot to next show/party, i guess that was how fashion week is. Honestly, none of us was too freezing cause we were basically tipsy from the champagne from the backstage of Donna Karan show earlier that afternoon.

i think Tara was trying to create a Fellinni-esque mood for this show though the reception might not be in her favor. Your points as an audience are completely valid and should be respected. everyone's voice should be resepcted. i agree.

In any event , BabyA, I really appreciate your interesting first-hand account of it. :D

Some dresses are OK by me (liked the black one very much)
But about the rest... I dunno .. it seems IOC makes clothing for the lazy shopper if you know what I mean ...

Bluemarine, i'm in any way defending IOC ( god knows i'm never their fan, i just happened to like this collection/show more than any of their previous ones, that didn't make me their free pr agent overnight. ) but i always think designers such as Michael Kors would be perfect for the "lazy shoppers" cause his clothes are so handy and safe ( of course nice and polite) anyone could just pull them off even without an ounce sense of style/porportion/design. I agree with you basically, cause i always think any "creative shopper" can just go to thrift shop/vintage stores and easily pull that look off. i'm just kind of re-phrasing your point, hope you don't mind. :D

Is the lady in Old Navy a part of the show?

I've been reworking thrift store clothes since I was 16. I don't understand the hype.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!!
what on earth is she doing!!!!!
AAAAAAAHAHAHAAAAAAAA

how exactly is the IOC show Fellinni-esque?

Have you seen 8 1/2? There is a scene with a bunch of circus characters jumping around and stuff. I think the message was that filmmaking is a big circus.

Here's the crap: http://www.papermag.com/stylin/fashion/sho...rk/ioc/ioc.html

But this post is more an excuse to post something else in the Designers and Collection forum. The whacky writing of MICKEY BOARDMAN (PAPERMAG). I love PAPERMAG, don't get it twisted.

Look what he has to say:

"Every season we think that IoC will let us down, and every season we're wrong."

"We must confess that we were nervous about Anna Sui this season. Her show last season was so incredible, we thought it impossible for this season to be as cute. Luckily, we were wrong."

This dude needs to expand his basic rhetorics and be a bit more inventive! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE, how can you write ONLY positive reviews (its true, look for yourself: http://www.papermag.com/stylin/fashion/sho...fall/new_york/) and then state it's not a particulary stellar week? i have more 80es nostalgia than anyone, but this guys gotta go. if he wrote this in 80s. fine. but not now. please. PLEAEEEEEEEEEEESE.

how can he try and put valid criticism into his writing by saying "we thought it would be crap but it wasnt" EVERYTIME HE WRITES??????????????????????? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE. he wouldnt make it throu 1 week of a journalism course at community college in cunneticut.

"Despite the cold, the schlepping and the fact that it hasn't been a particularly stellar Fashion Week, we temporarily forgot everything in the glow of another show well done by Imitation of Christ. "

he's blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Looks like the first 'semi-real' IOC collection to me, still a meltpot of diverse ideas. I'm not cutting any wrists over this :P

has ANYONE ever seen or known anybody who owns/wears IOC besides TS and Chloe?

How on earth does TS make money?

i read somewhere where she said it was so expensive to run IOC and that gave the impression that it was just a project.

i wonder if she is hoping someone will offer her a gig designing for a big house... Celine haha?

but seriously, is she rich or something from some other source?

In London where I live there's a chocolatebar called Mr. Tom. On the packaging it has a whole circus.

I think it's great because it means that trying to get a perfect body is a big circus. So in fact, I think the IOC collection is more Mr. Tom-esque than Fellini-esque. Also, that seems more deragatory to me, which is good.
