I like Iris. She has her niche as a dressmaker. She wants her woman to look like a graceful insect, and that's ok.

Yeah she is not trying anything new and it's a waste. I feel like she could make good acessories, shoes, bags, carve another niche of artsy tech acessories perhaps.

Funny enough, a good chunk of her couture dresses these days are made of ocean waste polyester.

For spring, the Dutch couturier collaborated with Parley for the Oceans Ocean Plastic fabric made from upcycled marine debris, which in her view is of couture quality. “Of course [couture] clients expect the highest quality out there, so you don’t want to go sustainable if you lower the quality,” she said on a Zoom call. “We are now at a moment where the quality [between an organic silk and a recycled polyester] is completely equal…. Now it’s really a matter of decision, it’s not a matter of choosing a quality. Basically, there’s not a lot of reason not to use sustainable materials anymore, other than changing your mindset.”

I don't care, I love that looking like an ocean creature is her brand. Armani Couture is cut to perfection but usually boring and sometimes ugly. Giambattista Valli Couture is just like 300 yards of tulle. Iris van Herpen Couture looks like phytoplankton. It's nice to have things you can rely on.
