yes i think think belongs to their property, they have a conde nast store that sells this kind of things:fashion photos, illustrations and so on..but IMO the problem is not where to buy it,is whether you're $$$ enough to buy it!:ninja:

What issue of Vouge is that, Northern Star?

^Sorry Bette, I wouldn't know. I just kept things from mags that I was interested in and binned the mags:doh: Huge regrets on my part and obviously not much help to you either.

Vogue US (September 2005)
"Hiding In The Spotlight"
Ph: Irving Penn
Model: Lisa Cant

scanned by me

There better be more than those two pages in the next issue. He gave and gave to US Vogue.

^ Actually for me he made US Vogue, there were times when i didnt like anything about the issue, except a single photograph of his (usually part of some article), and i would get it for that alone.

 Really is that it??? Is that their tribute to one of the major contributors to their magazine??
That's out of order and they really had better acknowledge his work in their next issue. I'm assuming they are going to.

I think it's kind of sickening that he only got 2 pages in Vogue as a remembrance. That little tart Sienna got what 20 pages? Anna sure knows what will draw the common reader in...

I'm grateful to find this thread. While I adore his fashion imagery, I think Penn's photographs of indigenous and working people are superior.

i really like these too..
does anyone know if they are part of a single collection?
i was searching for them last night, and they seem to just be scattered everywhere.. a small bunch taken in Africa on one site and a few in another --but no mention of any one book that may have all of them under this theme(s)

Here's one of tradesmen

Photographer Irving Penn (b. 1917) is renowned for his innovative contributions to portrait, still life, and fashion photography, and a career that has spanned more than six decades at Vogue magazine. In 1950, Vogue assigned Penn to photograph workers in Paris, and thus his monumental work The Small Trades began. Created in 1950 and 1951 in Paris, London, and New York, The Small Trades consists of portraits of skilled trades people dressed in their work clothes and carrying the tools of their respective trades. Capturing the humble coal heaver and the crisply dressed waiter with equal directness, Penn's arresting portraits also underscore fascinating cultural differences.
The Small Trades was Penn's most extensive body of work, and he returned to it over many decades, producing ever more exacting prints. Two hundred and six unique images from the series are flawlessly reproduced in this book. In addition, the introductory essay describes the history and context of The Small Trades series and its importance to Penn's career and the history of photography. An interview with Edmonde Charles-Roux, the chief editor for French Vogue from 1952 to 1966, who assisted him on the assignment in Paris, provides fascinating insights of the Paris sittings. An exhibition of the series will be on view at the J. Paul Getty Museum from September 9, 2009, through January 10, 2010.
