A star-studded opening party on July 21 will feature a replica of the Apollo Theater stage with a performance by rapper and Harlem resident Doug E. Fresh and food supplied by renowned New York chef Marcus Samuelsson, who is opening Red Rooster nearby this fall.
Target is featuring custom apparel and accessory collections from local designers, including Isabel Toledo and her artist husband Ruben, Stephen Burrows and Mr. Samuelsson, whose kitschy potholders featuring bananas and vegetables are meant to extol the virtues of fresh produce to the neighborhood, he said.
Ms. Toledo designed a line of beach wear featuring Mr. Toledo's art work. A percentage of each purchase will benefit a Harlem charity of the designers' choice.
