J.W. Anderson S/S 2014 London

I still don't see why there is so much buzz about him. His work always look like a graduate collection.

this is just painful ugly

Must be fun to work at J.W Anderson. Not so much pattern-cutting work or stitching...

He usually excels when designing more wearable, basic pieces like some of the knitwear he's done are usually a highlight in the collection. But every season he seems to discard the nice wearable items he's good at for an attempt to be avant-garde and experimental, which isn't really in his skill set. It just comes across as too forced and desperate to be avant-garde.

That said, I like the textured in the collection and some of the looks have potential or are visually pleasing.

i quite like the attempt if anything even if in some areas execution comes into question. it's very akin to what ann-sofie back has been doing with her "atelje" collection and maybe even a nod to the highly underrated icon shelley fox, though much better. there does seem to be a heavy issey miyake influence about this and upon looking at the detail work i do feel he did accomplish that spirit of the japanese master. and actually this is the way that JW initially started out....his work was highly unconventional and slowly he began evolving into more commercial if not downright kitschy endeavours.....so this is almost like a return to his original inclinations.

Pretty unwearable collection, I like and understand the idea behind the realization of these clothes, but the final result looks kinda amateurish and a lot of looks have a sort of uncompleted feeling.
