Ok...I am gonna watch the following videoclip in a loop: and I´ll try to pretend this new collection never happened
The craftsmanship is amazing and the cast is strong. As for the clothes...I guess he designed the costumes for his « Fashion Freak Show ». But I guess that with a lot of modifications, some clients will find some good additions to their wardrobe.
Nowadays I'm just happy to see him happy and doing what he loves the most. I won't comment on this collection and, as @jeanclaude , I'll just watch some old school JPG.
One thing he hasn't changed is the craftsmanship. Other than that, no comment. I still would love to wear his sharp tailoring suit on my wedding day though.
A while back when he closed down his RTW and would only continue couture, I was a bit sad but kept hope that he would go full on out with his Couture collections since he would just work on that and not have to deliver so many collections a year.... but looking back, I'm disappointed. He's just been on automode and catering probably to the small core audience he has. It's a shame to see him fade away. There's some looks that I love but it's all something I've seen from him before.
I think that Gaultier is at a point where he doesn’t care. He is rich, he can do whatever he wants and tbh, he hasn’t been a part of the fashion conversation in years...Both in Couture, and prior to that, RTW. He’s doing what he wants to do. Remember, he started Couture because at first he wanted to do Dior after Ferré and Arnault only proposed Givenchy. So, he has everything to prove back then. Now he is celebrated designer, an icon in pop culture and his legacy is secured. I think he has his loyal clientele and that’s all that matter to him at this point.
I thought after stopping his RTW his HC collections would become even better, but they've gotten worse. Maybe designing RTW helped to filter out his less interesting ideas, or maybe it kept his design sense sharper. This is his worst collection since stopping RTW.
