I discovered Christophe last summer, not through his work for his namesake brand (not lacoste) and I was incredibly impressed!
I now regret not having bought one of his trench coats or blazers. I have never tried on a jacket that is so lightweight and yet so cleverly structured. Impeccable fit, impeccable materials...
I wonder what will happen to his prices from now on. I would expect them to rocket, but who knows...

This is probably good news. His own collections have been sucky recently. Maybe he can concentrate on them more.

I feel like Hermes is a little crazy
they have justified why he was a good choice
other than that they trust him

Can everyone stop thinking about Lemaire as only Lacoste, please take a look at his eponymous line!

Personally I think this is a match made in heaven.

I also like his namesake line. I think he would bring something new to Hermes and I do have hope in him.

It's about time Gaultier left the house, after his F/W 2008/2009 collection I haven't liked him as much and there was a limited amount of things from his collections that I did admire, but anyways...

I'm very stoked to see what Christophe can offer to the brand, I can see how he suits the brand aswell (both him and Hermes are all about sportswear). I've also looked at his own personal collection which is very impressive aswell, I'll be thrilled to see what he makes of the label come Feb/March 2011.

nichanian and hermes are a match made in heaven. i'm not holding my breath for lemaire. his eponymous line ain't bad, but it's not gaultier by any stretch of the imagination, agreed? in my mind, it's like dior homme going from hedi slimane to kris van assche. kris has some great stuff, but he's no hedi.

After seeing Lemaire's own collection, I'm more intrigued than scared to see his debut.

Let's face it generally Hermes clothes are never really ground breaking. Usually safe, perhaps Lemaire will bring something new and interesting. Don't get me wrong I love JPG's work with Hermes. But sometimes you need that new artistic point of view. It's funny everyone is freaking out about Lemaire as artistic director, yet he has worked with Christian Lacroix, Yves Saint Laurent and so on.

I'm not a huge fan of JPG and the only collection by him for Hermes I remember that I liked was Spring/Summer 2008 - the Indian Summer.
As usual, I am excited to experience fresh design.
Looking at Lemaire's website I'm half expecting Hermes is to become another luxurious-basic House. Though, as long as it is hyper-luxurious, as is synonymous with the name, I won't hold a grudge.

Very true. And I think that's what the heads of Hermes have in mind.

And thanks Mutterlein for pointing out Lemaire's own line. Completely underwhelmed with his design: It's as if he plundered the archives of late 80s-early 90s Zoran, Armani and Claude Montana, and produced everything in a neutral color-palette much like in-house labels do, and called it his own.

However, with the ultra-deluxe-luxury Hermes label attached to Lemaire's voluminous and more importantly, body-friendly silhouettes, this could work out extremely well for sales at Hermes.
