Anna Wintour Takes On Sneakers

The editor is collaborating with Nike for some new kicks.
By Evan Clark on July 12, 2018

Anna Wintour has taken on the sneaker business.

The Vogue editor in chief and Condé Nast artistic director linked with Nike’s Air Jordan brand for a sneaker collaboration, according to the magazine.

Nike has tweaked two versions from its long lineup and stamped them with “AWOK” on the sole, which stands for “Anna Wintour OK” and is used by the editor to sign off on pages in Vogue before publication.

Besides and “AWOK” sticker last year, this is the first product the editor has put her name on.

It’s a strange activewear start for Wintour. Not only is the collaboration being introduced just as the world’s soccer — or football — obsession peaks with the World Cup finale this weekend. Besides, the editor is known as a big tennis fan. To try to connect the dots, Wintour made a video that shows her sitting at her desk, shooting a small basketball into a plastic hoop on the wall each time she completes one of her editorial duties. The spot ends with the editor walking off after a series of perfect shots.

The retro high-tops come in red or white leather. Air Jordan 1 versions will be available at Hirshleifers, Kith, Nordstrom x Nike, and North America Jumpman doors in Toronto and Chicago on July 21. After that, they will be sold on the Nike Snkrs app across North America.

Another version of Air Jordan 3 SEs will be available Sept. 7 and nod to her signature Chanel tweed suits and sunglasses.

The story on Vogue.com also indicated that there’s business to be had in the deal, noting, “Vogue will receive a portion of proceeds from the sale of these sneakers.”

Joan Smalls Reveals How to Look Smart & Sexy on the Beach

“Extra” recently spoke to supermodel Joan Smalls at the Dream Hotel in NYC, where she promoted her swimwear collection Smart & Sexy. Small emphasized about her line, which can be mixed and matched, “When you’re at the beach, you actually want to look good and stylish.”

^Yeah, I agree. Quite stunning.

Don't get me wrong, Joan is still doing exceptionally well right booking great jobs still to this day as a super in this industry with great connections and a muse to many.

But.....I just need to see her on more ONLY GIRL Vogue covers.
Hoping for a UK Vogue cover soon. Joan is up there with the Legendary and Iconic models. She's a damn Supermodel. I feel she deserves better. It's sad!!!!
There is plenty of room for everyone to shine. IMO

3-4 Vogue Covers spread out throughout the year would be ideal, without being over exposed, yet maintain her Supermodel Iconic status.

I don't even mind Joan booking vogues from every Country. Some might think it would be beneath her because of her supermodel status, but at the same time Supermodels have Vogue covers from all over the world even if they're re-prints. A good mix between the big 4 and smaller markets is good.
I want to see her on:

Vogue Taiwan
Vogue Arabia
Vogue Netherlands
Vogue India
Vogue Vietnam
Vogue China
Vogue Poland
Vogue Portugal
Vogue Ukraine
and other repeats like Vogue Turkey, Spain, Germany, Russia and Australia

Unfortunately, Emmanuelle Alt really dislikes Joan Smalls, and as long as she's in charge of Vogue Paris Hell will freeze over before Joan gets an Editorial ONLY GIRL Vogue cover for that French Magazine. Sad to say.

Then again Vogue Paris isn't known to be very friendly to Women of Color.:innocent:
At least I'm glad Liya Kebede got a Vogue Paris cover 3 years ago(May, 2015), after much controversy due to the lack of diversity.

It breaks my heart to say this but, I don't see Joan achieving the Big Four in her career. But she's an ambitious supermodel and a fighter, so who knows???

Just my two cents.
