Joanne K. (J.K.) Rowling

I don't know if this is against the rules to say or if this is going to get me banned/censured whatever, but why preserve/continue this thread?

JK Rowling is not really a fashion icon. As far as I know, I don't think her style has ever even been especially memorable. And at this moment the most prominent thing about her is that she is a relentless bigot. I'm just a little confused here.

I dare say her views, some of which I disagree with, are still largely to the left of the vast majority of people on planet Earth. Outside of social media bubbles, she’s still most widely known for her work, which remains incredibly popular. She’s one of the most famous people in the world and she made a red carpet appearance to premiere the new blockbuster film she’s written. I don’t find it inappropriate at all to post an update in this thread, though I understand why people who don’t like her might choose to not follow the updates.

Her views are not "largely to the left" and even if wide swathes of people share them, I don't know how that is an adequate justification for anything. At one point the vast majority of people believed Black people weren't human. That reasoning is just wild.

I mean, I promise I'm not trying to start argument or be rude. I've said my piece so I'll just see my way out, but like...it is very difficult to even care what she's wearing when her views are not merely "disagreeable" but actively harmful to the trans community, especially given her status, wealth, and power, and particularly in an era where these "views" are becoming manifest in legislation. It's no small thing, but by all means, assess whether the color of her cape suits her. Very normal!

Obviously it’s impossible to really get into a discussion about her views on Trans rights/legislation without going wildly off topic. But yes, most of her political and social views seem left-of-center, from a global perspective. The point of mentioning that is basically to say once we start policing every stance every famous person has and using it to determine if they can be posted about, who would be left? It would inevitably just come down to people cherry picking what they’ll allow and who they’ll allow it from based on personal biases. There are MANY celebrities and leaders with a track history of transphobic comments, violence (domestic and otherwise) not supporting equal rights (marriage, namely) for LBTQIA+ people, misogyny, racist comments and actions, the list goes on and on. Frankly, until the last 6-7 years, almost no one was vocally supportive of Trans rights and most just don’t speak on it, at least not genuinely.

This is a fashion forum, comments on her cape are
far more appropriate than comments on her personal views.

LOL Just like typical religious, fundamentalist Taliban fanatics— or little communists Red Guards: Cancel, erase and eradicate anyone and anything that not only is critical of your political ideology— but wipe them off a silly fashion forum as well LOOOOL

I just can’t at these so-called progressive’s slightest of intolerance for facts and biology. It’s embarrassing.

A lot of people in this corner of the forum are not fashion icons so I really don't understand what's your point other than bashed her for having opinions. Said that, I appreciate that she's not holding back and giving anyone empty apologizing words.

She looked amazing tho, loved the color but the cape was too much.
