John Galliano - Designer

Uhh when was Sophia Loren wearing that dress?
I can't find any photographic evidence of this.

The WWD headline sounds like John Fairchild's bitchy self wrote this himself from beyond the grave: "Lauren Sánchez Channels ‘Strength and Timeless Beauty’ in Sophia Loren’s John Galliano Dress at Breakthrough Prize 2025 With Jeff Bezos"

Now the the musical chairs have finished another round –what's the current frontrunner rumor for John Galliano's next chapter?

If LVMH were to revive his namesake brand with him at the helm, I can see his collections (2/year) being presented during PFW Haute Couture. This would give him maximal impact without too much noise from the cacophony of the PFW RTW calendar, and I can see the label operating as a made-to-order / demi-couture RTW house. His core clients would already be in town for couture.

The earliest we could see a new JG collection under the above assumptions is January. However, since there's been no news of hiring or infrastructure... I can't see JG showing a collection anywhere until next summer at the very earliest.

I just saw a paparazzi clip of Anna Wintour talking to one of her assistants in which she told her John Galliano was designing the wedding dress of someone (I couldn't hear who) getting married in St. Mauritz, so I guess he hasn't retired just yet...

The problem with John is that a huge part of the appeal towards his work has more to do with runway shows and theatrics than his actual beautiful clothes.
I truly believe that John could be happy just designing clothes under his name but I fear those who wants theatrics may feel disappointed. How do you finance that?

If he comes back with his namesake brand I want the brand to actually experience commercial success.

Didn't Renzo say he was looking to acquire a new brand?
Acquiring a new brand and starting a brand from scratch literally (which was never profitable in it previous existence) is another thing.
But why not? He has the manufacturing facilities with Staff International. They can probably handle the production and distribution of John Galliano in a sort of joined-venture type of situation. The problem again with John Galliano (and we saw it when Bill Gaytten took over) is what could happen to the brand once the founder is gone.

For me John should be like Hervé Leger when he founded Herve H.Leroux. Doing his Couture dresses and demi-Couture RTW, exclusive clientèle, 1 store. 2/3 international stockists and maybe a fragrance deal. But he should be 100% owner of his brand.

From a branding and expansion aspect, there are more interesting brands for Renzo Rosso IMO.

Aww why he's older he and got to make his dreams come ture. Maybe not all of them but he did a good job he fell down and then he got up. I'm proud of him.
I don’t know…
It’s a bit like when I saw Claude Montana in the jardins du Palais Royal.
Yes he overcame the controversy but nothing will ever be the same. And tbh, watching his documentary didn’t help.

He is still a genius but he definitely wears his life of excess, physically.

I’m not a melancholic person at all but sometimes I watch old John shows and I feel the same way as I feel when I watch all Karl’s shows…Even if the man is alive and more or less active.
