John Galliano F/W 2008.09 Paris

Sometimes I like the craziness that is a Galliano show, and other times like right now, I hate it, because I can't focus on the clothes at all!

Not sure...and that's partially because I can't understand what's going on. It is interesting looking though. ^_^

I see some lovely dresses but I hate the way he's been presenting his collections lately. Everything seems to scattered and the runway just looks like a dated movie set. I wish the hair ( and head-pieces ) and makeup wasn't such a distraction.

i just dont understand how he can put such marvellous shows under his name and not dior! there's the whole thing about reaching 2 different audiences, and all that stuff.... but seriously! it just kills me that what he did for dior, anyone could have done it, but this is 100% galliano form his early days, updated to fit the mood of the century so perfectly!

It's obviously not as good as previous seasons, but it's not that bad. It's still exciting and still a show. The dresses are my favorite pieces, especially the one's on Natasha as well as the colored fringed piece.

Hmm, I think I like it  The make-up and colours are really nice

I dunno, I dont really like it. Its too messy. Those hats are really ugly and the makeup is just too overdone. Some pieces are pretty though.

Ok, I really love this! I don't know wether I love it because Dior sucked or because it's awesome anyway, but I don't really care atm.

I just want to get the guy's phonenumber.... (the naked one in the middle)

Dior-emborideries on John's outfits, hit and miss, nice items, overal: boring as hell

Love make-up tho. And again: setting... ;)

I'm definitely, definitely getting a Salome vibe from all of this. The colors, the sheerness, the setting, the drama, the turbans.

As others have said, it's not as strong as his last two namesake collections, but it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

Who knows though, seeing the whole collection could easily change my tune.

^ I agree with you.
And for me his shows are not only about the clothes, but it's the whole show that counts, and I think I'm going to love this. But still, I'll have to wait for the video to give final judgement...

I'm not getting Salome from this, unless it's Oscar Wilde advertisements for Salome, I am getting Uber-outrageous flapper from this, with the tassels on the sleeves of one gown like an Erte drawing, fringing everywhere, cute granny knits only in bold colours, shapeless transparent dresses, I really like that.
I think the hairpieces and makeup really distracts from the great clothes. I am so glad he and many others did a lot of colour this season, I wasn't eager to slip into another Great Depression of solid black for six months like this past winter.
Really liking this collection.

I have a feeling that he somehow took his inspiration from some movie. Natasha carrying that Oscar around makes me thing that it was a movie for which an actress won an Oscar back when. Now I might be a filmstudent, but I don't have complete recollection of all movies that ever won an Oscar :p Anyone know of a movie centering around harems and maharadzja's?

I don't understand what people are looking at to say that this collection is bad?
I have to say, NO it isn't as good as previous seasons but this is FAR from a bad collection.
My favorite part is the actual clothes.
This time around I think the make up and setting is a little on the annoying side which is sad because in previous seasons the make up, hair, and setting enhanced the clothes.
That would be my only disappointment.
I can't wait to see some detail shots and a video!

I couldn't agree more.

Anyone with a catwalking account willing to post the collection? :D

I feel like I'm on the same boat as you, Sal. I think once I read what Galliano was thinking about this season, I'll probably appreciate it more...the way he talks about his inspiration is always so inspiring and the passion he has for it rubs off on you.

Interesting. Looks fun, but not really my cup of tea.
