INTERVIEW – FASHION MODEL JOHN RUITENBEEK’S SUMMER
How do get your body in shape?
‘Most important is nutrition. I cook everyday as healthy as possible. That means I don’t eat carbohydrates, but a lot of egg whites. All the good stuff I can’t have anymore! Although, I do love meat and fish as well. I work out twice a day, I do kickboxing, fitness and in the weekends motor cross. I like variety. Living my life, watching what I eat, no alcohol and exercising, isn’t a problem for me. It has becomes of way of life, not just a diet. I think it’s great to take such care of my body and make money with it too!’
What do you always bring with you when you travel?
‘My IPod and Blackberry. I need to have access to my email and music. I always bring a book; right now I’m reading a Buddhist book written by Deepak Chopra. I find Buddhism very interesting. I don’t have a typical taste in music, I listen to classic, R&B, Hip-hop, just no Hardcore.’
What’s your most memorable summer holiday?
‘That would be the few days I spend in Los Angeles for a job. I had to show clothing from Hugo Boss at a benefit auction where they raised money to help victims of aids. After the show they threw an amazing party and I was standing there between only supermodels. We spend three days in the best hotel and I lived like a prince!’
Must see spot?
‘Definitely New York! It’s a model’s heaven, the place to be for my career. I like the dynamic of the city. It’s a fast live you life there, but that suits me. Everything you need, you will find in New York. Including beautiful night clubs of course.’
What’s your summer tune?
‘I listen a lot to Rick Ross and Meek Mill.’
What can I get you?
‘No alcohol probably, because I shouldn’t drink it, so it would be tea or water. But every now and then… A glass of red wine or a mojito.’
Were can we find you in the Netherlands during summertime?
‘Wherever the party is! And that’s different everyday of course. I don’t have favorite beach clubs or anything. I actually aim to be as less as possible in the Netherlands, but when I’m here I like to hang out with my friends in the city and chill a little.’
Where to party?
‘At the most exclusive ones! At parties during Fashion Week, you can see the most beautiful woman there! At Halloween I was at this party in New York and among the guests were Doutzen Kroes and Kim Kardashian. I would have liked to talk to Kim, she is gorgeous, but she brought her four security men with her.’
Summer of love?
‘I actually met my last girlfriend on a summer holiday in Spain; I was on vacation with friends. I met her, fell in love and it lasted for two and a half years. The best summer love story I have!’
Any plans for this year?
‘I take each day as it comes, so I don’t have really specific plans. Bookings might be coming in as we speak and I want to be as free and flexible as possible to be able to take every job. I think, for now, that will be within Europe. But who knows!’
What’s your favorite item?
‘I don’t go anywhere without my sunglasses. I have more then one, but I’m fond of my Ray-Ban and D&G.’
Perfect summer moment?
‘I imagine myself on a jet ski in my swim shorts, getting tanned, just relaxing. Preferably somewhere around the Mediterranean Sea.
