The 33rd edition of the Elite Model Look modelling competition was held on Sunday, 10 July in the Gashouder in Amsterdam. The winner is 15-year-old Joyce Bergevoet, who now has a spot in the international final of the Elite World Final, as well as a modelling contract with Elite Model Management Amsterdam. Fashionweek.nl caught up with Joyce to talk about her win.
Congratulations, Joyce! What went through your head when your name was announced as the winner of Elite Model Look Netherlands 2016?
"Thank you! I didn’t immediately realise that I'd actually won. But once it dawned on me, I was really happy. I totally didn’t expect to win."
Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
"I'm 15 years old and I'm from Duiven. I play hockey three times a week and I like to hang out with my friends. I was in Amsterdam shopping with friends when I was scouted by Elite and they asked me to enter the competition. I'd actually never thought about becoming a model, but there have been people who told me I should try it. But I hadn't done anything with it up to that point."
Why do you think you won?
"Honestly? I have no idea. I really thought everyone had the same chances. I don't know if I have certain qualities that caused me to win. I know generally what the jury was looking for, but why they chose me? I really don’t know."
What have you learned from Elite Model Look?
"Quite a lot. When I started at the casting in Heerlen, I really couldn't walk. Now I can. So I think that was a learning process in itself, ha-ha. It's really an experience I'll never forget."
What are your dreams and what do you see for yourself in the future?
"Winning Elite Model Look is already good enough for me, actually. If I can go further and model for high-end brands, of course that would be amazing, as well. But for me this win is already really, really wonderful. And of course I get to enter the Elite World Final, too. That is really cool and I'm definitely looking forward to it."
Who are you going to celebrate your win with?
"With my parents and friends who are here."
