He was the greatest designer alive and a shining beacon of light in a world increasingly overrun by philistines. RIP.

You just never expect something like this to really happen, until it happens... He left behind an enormous legacy that surely won't be forgotten. May he rest in peace and may his loved ones find peace in this difficult time.

I hope heaven is filled with cats and books - so Karl will be happy there.
We are lucky he resurrected Chanel in the way that he did: for me, in the 80s & 90s especially.
He made the House so exciting again.
    Goodnight Mr. Lagerfeld.

I knew it would happen any time, but still it was unexpected and I was so shocked by the news that I couldn't believe it. It's so deeply sad, but on the other hand he was a legend, a real icon. The king of fashion. And there will be no one else that would be even close to his level.

RIP Karl, and thank you for being such a talented designer.

A question: Does anybody here have the pr.chanel.com link to the section regarding Lagerfeld's tenure at Chanel? I received it from the French HQ but deleted the email in haste.

It was obvious he was ill after his (I think?) last public appearance at the Camps Elysées in November, then even more obvious after he missed the Couture shows in January. And still it comes as a surprise, and I'm saddened and shocked. As many have said before, he seemed immortal, and his presence seemed as natural as water and air for my whole life.

Some tabloids say he was brought to a hospital on Monday night as an emergency, where he eventually died of pancreatic cancer.

Such a terrible day for fashion - he was more than just a designer, he really was an icon. I can't even imagine what the future for Chanel and Fendi will be like...we all knew this day would come, and yet it still feels such a shock:cry: He leaves behind an incredibly legacy and I hope he is at peace.
