With a client roster of super A-listers to dress and with a ready to wear collection on the way, you would think that stylist Rachel Zoe would have enough on her plate in the lead up to fashion's hottest night of the year, the Met Ball. But Ms Zoe decided to go one better and unveil her first ever red carpet design. Who can blame her when she had a canvas as fabulous as supermodel Karolina Kurkova to display her masterpiece?!
Victoria Secrets model Karolina made a huge splash on the red carpet as she appeared with more sparkles than the Rockerfellar Christmas tree, dressed quite literally from head to toe in rose gold. Talking to
Fab Sugar, Rachel spoke about the experience of creating her first couture gown. ‘Not in my lifetime did I ever think that would be a reality – that was the dream fulfilled beyond what I could ever imagine. I spent a lot of nights dreaming about what I would want that to look like.’
It certainly was a sight to behold with long sleeves, a full length skirt with a kick flare at the base, a low scoop back and a belt which pulled the dress in at the waist. According to Rachel, the addition of the turban happened literally the day before paying homage to Italian fashion designer Schiaparelli and Muicca Prada and included some Fred Leyton diamonds to add extra sparkle.
‘The most important thing for me as a stylist and a designer is how someone feels when they wear something and that they feel incredible when they wear it and it’s a magical moment for them.’ There’s no denying that Karolina stole the attention of every eye on the red carpet as she displayed Ms Zoe’s creation with finesse. So, with her ready to wear collection about to hit stores, would she consider designing another couture creation? ‘The answer is yes, I can’t wait to do more and I love it.’
