Kate Moss For TopShop

story from timesonline.com

Gathering Moss proves profitable

Sarah Butler

Kate Moss’s clothing range for Topshop is to become an international wholesale brand under plans being considered by Sir Philip Green. The billionaire said international interest in Topshop had soared since the retailer launched its first Kate Moss range in May.
Apart from Topshop’s own stores and franchise outlets abroad, the Moss label is already being sold in about 20 stores around the world.
Sir Philip said that he was considering selling the range independently into specialist stores in other countries and he believed there were about 50 potential clients, such as upmarket independents or department stores that might stock the range.
“There’s a very good wholesale businsess there. People like our speed to market and that we are putting in something new every couple of weeks,” he said.
The Kate Moss range is sold in 21 countries, including the US, where Barney’s, the department store, has bought the range. Sir Philip said he wanted to take the range’s international presence “up a gear”.
Sir Philip would not give any sales figures for the brand but he said: “Even the most sceptical person has to accept it has had he most fantastic press coverage.”
He said the range had brought new customers to Topshop who might not have visited before and drove up the number of visitors to the stores. Sir Philip said he did not plan to expand the range signifi- cantly in the UK and not all the items designed in conjunction with the model had been a success: “The product has got to be right. All the effort has got to be on the merchandise. It has got to have an edgy feel.”
The first Kate Moss fashion range for Topshop was launched on May 1 and generated so much interest that 2,500 people queued for up to eight hours to gain 20 minutes’ access to the flagship Oxford Street store. The model was paid an estimated £3 million for use of her name and her role in designing the range.
Sir Philip wants to make Topshop into a lifestyle brand, with plans to launch cosmetics bearing the brand’s name next year.
The billionaire said he was more closely involved with the day-to-day running of the chain and was implementing ideas he had mused on for “a couple of years” — giving an indication of the tensions that led to the departure of Jane Shepherdson, the former Topshop brand director, a year ago.

^i think that's a great idea. as long as it's a success and people like it, why not?

Are any of you guys able to identify the song that is played in the KM TopShop Christmas catwalk video?
I've fallen deeply in love with that track..

does anyone know what happened to that black wetlook maxi dress? Cant find it anywhere.

Loonaka -The black wetlook maxi dress went on mid-season sale online. Maybe it's in the sale section or sold out?

i think it's sold out, but i can't find it anywhere on ebay either...so sad 'casue i realy wanted it.

Anyone here who got it?

Does anyone know if they have Size 6 of the Penelope dress in the Oxford Circus store? I went to the Top Shop near the Strand and they didn't have Size 6 for any of the dresses.

Im going there on Thursday so if you can wait till then I can have a look and see what the have in stock.

i heard that a topshop associate should be able to ascertain where different sizes are in the system and have them sent to your local store...

Laisla -Thanks!

Lucy92 -Really? I know they do that in high-end boutique stores but I didn't realise they did that at Top Shop too. Actually, the Top Shop I went to last Thur didn't even have the Penelope dress!

It doesn't seem like many people here have bought stuff from the new Christmas collection yet. Perhaps it's still too faraway from the parties? ;)

have anyone bought some of the dresses from the new collection?
I tried on these on today:

its completely amazing in real life and the quality is so much better than anything else she has designed. I just cant afford to spend £130 on a dress :(

Haha. I wonder if that was the dress Anna Wintour was rumoured to want.

i saw the beaded one in the pic that Laisla posted in the shops yesterday, and i bought it today. Its got amazing detail. I wasn't keen on the summer stuff and even the spring collection but certain pieces in this winter collection are good. I also bought the green/navy striped jumper... its really skinny fit and good quality wool. Also quite understated - dont think its instantly recognisable as a KM piece. I really like the flaper dress which she wore to the SFR event, but i think that its overpriced.

^ They really stepped up the game with this collection. The quality is far superior to both Kate's past collections and Topshop's unique and botique range. For the majority of regular erm topshoppers the the prices are steep but if you're looking to invest in a LBD that will last you a few season and have the money to spare then I think that the prices are justified.

^^its very true. Although I was only thinking a few weeks ago that it feels like the quality of TS has diminished recently, but not sure if my taste in clothes is maturing rather than Topshop quality diminishing ;) Anyway i compltely agree with you, the materials are noticibly a lot more "luxe" than the previous collections. The cynic in me thinks that they lost so much money on the first collections that they had to change tack. I still have visions of those dresses from the inagural collection and how dire they were, some were more held together with fresh air more than stitching. I mean there is literally no comparison between the pic of Kate herself at the SFR event in the gold dress, compared with the red dress fiasco over the summer. I wonder if a lot of people are just "over" the whole KM thing though, or maybe prejudiced by the previous collections cause i managed to get a size 6 in that dress and the 6-8's are usually gone in a flash.
