After losing the Ford Supermodel of the World contest to Hyoni Kang, no one knew how much more of the adorably freckled Kate Somers we’d be seeing. Actually, quite a bit. She won over Marc Jacobs, walking in both of his New York shows. And she walked exclusively for Gianfranco Ferré in Milan. With a season like that, there’s hope for runners-up everywhere. —Kendall Herbst

^It's such a shame that for as knowledgeable as NYMag tries to come across in regards to models, that they continually make such basic factual mistakes. Kate did not compete against Hyoni, as she was in the competition a year before Hyoni. Also it seems that they're forgetting her appearances at Daks, Etro, Jil Sander, and Sportmax (which she opened) in Milan.

Oh well, I suppose it's just nice to be mentioned.

There was a magical day just over a year ago, when Kate Somers and Taryn Davidson both walked into Pink Tartan's office for a casting.

It was the first time I had met either of them, and one of those days I knew would stay with me for a long, long time.

Since then, of course, both have gone on to be a major international runway stars; Davidson being named a Top 10 newcomer for Spring/Summer '08, and Somers earning the same honour this season.

Tuesday the pair of phenoms shared the runway in Toronto with another Top 10 newcomer from this season, Amanda Laine.
