^ Thanks for so many wonderful pics !
But, I'm wondering... There are so many of them, when I thought she's a very new one... Like, I thought, that contest she won was very, very recently (well, like shortly before this thread was created)... When did they manage to shoot so many pics ? Or, are they all tests ? But then, what's the point to make so many tests ? Besides, I thought she said she wouldn't start modeling until she graduates school, which is a few months to go... Or something like that... And, that was recently. And, now she's all over...

edit: I just saw there're at least two editorials she did already... How fast ?!!

In the Australian edition of Marie Claire this month there's an article on models in Belarus and how the government is trying to stop them going abroad to work. They spoke to a model named Katja who had gone overseas to compete in the Supermodel of the World competition. She said that once she returned to Belarus, she was interrogated by the KGB for hours on end about her travel. I have a strong feeling it was this very Katia Damenkova. Poor girl.

could you please post this article?

^ Sorry the article's pretty long and I don't have a scanner. The article says that the government is shutting down modeling agencies, saying that they are stopping sex trafficking and escorts etc. I'll type out the bit about Katia.

'Katja, 18, an up-and-coming model, speaks with suprising frankness about the new law. Katja's anger stems from a recent trip to the US for the Supermodel of the world contest - and the four hours she was forced to spend at the KGB headquarters upon her return.
"While abroad, I received a note [from the KGB]," she admits. "Then they called me and demanded an immediate appointment. Several people interrogated me, one after another, dragging me from room to room. They kept shaking papers with the dates of my trip in my face and warned me to 'answer for everything'. They asked me why I went abroad and, more importantly, they tried to make me confess that I had been sexually exploited while abroad. I told them I'm still a virgin, but they kept pushing. One man even said, 'Your agency gave you money for an operation so that you can sew it up later'."

'Katja believes the sexual exploitation of models - if it exists - is not the kind of forced slavery some would imagine. "I know many Belarussian girls who would line up to go work as escorts somewhere in Japan," she claims. "We live in a poor country. The money these women can earn in one week in Japan, or another wealthy country, would easily dress and feed their entire family back home."

'Despite squeaking through her first interrogation, Katja fully expects to be called into the KGB offices again. She has mentally perpared herself for the fact that they will likely prohibit her from leaving the country but, nevertheless, she does not intend to give up her modeling career just yet. "This job is acknowledged as respectable everywhere in the world - except Belarus"'

I was just asking someone what happened to her. Thanks for the info.

Now I know what she looks like! She looks like the love child of Valentina and Freja!
