I can't imagine making all that much money at all from a TV movie.

I don't really think she's in any huge financial difficulty. She's not rich like Oprah but I think she's doing okay. Far better than the average person, anyway.
Look at Vanessa Hudgens. All her candids involve her shopping (or with her boyfriend), like Lindsay. She's filmed a couple of movies but nothing substantial. High School Musical 3 was her biggest film and it "only" paid her $3 million, which is less than half of what Lindsay used to make ($7.5 million for Just My Luck). So Bandslam and Beastly and the other tween films she's done have most likely earned less than half that. She's done modeling for Ecko (equal to Lindsay's modeling for Fornirina, Miu Miu, Jill Stuart). Her albums have sold roughly the same amount as Lindsay's (certified Gold). And both are always clad in designer clothing. And Vanessa doesn't look like she's going broke.
It's not like Lindsay is going to Vegas every night and gambling everything away. Nor is she buying yachts and airplanes and villas in France. She doesn't have a family to support. She didn't purchase a huge ranch in which she has to pay a ton of property tax each year. Also, Lindsay has yet to file for bankruptcy protection or loans, which MJ did.
All she does is shop. And when you make $70,000 per club appearance, you can afford to. That's like 20 handbags right there. Or 20 pairs of shoes. And she usually wears leggings, which she gets for free (being the designer and all). With a t-shirt or tanktop. It's not like she's Rihanna, who probably puts on a $20,000 outfit everyday.
Her leggings line sold out last year and is pretty pricey ($44 - $132 a pair). Her tanning lotion has a 4.2/5 rating on Sephora, which means people are buying and liking the product (= sales). She's been the face of a designer for the past 2 seasons. And she's just signed on for a film role (hence the recent hair dye job).
If people like Lauren Conrad, Nicole Richie, and Demi Lovato can afford to shop for designer clothing while not earning millions per project, I think Lindsay can do the same. They all lead the same lifestyle, really.

Yes well now she just has to show up on time EVERY day, not throw diva-hissy fits so she can take 30 minute smoke breaks so she can text,

You'd think that such behavior like that being exhibited on the set would be a good enough reason to not engage in a business deal with Miss Lohan.
Geez, that rumour is an obvious false as it was taken by the story plot itself and the cast said it themselves.^ Yeah- remember Ugly Betty, where she was to do 7 episodes and was let go after only a couple due to her behavior..?
