Lindsay Lohan and Keira Knightley are set to light up the screen together in a film about Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, in which they play women who are sexually attracted to each other. The story revolves around the wordsmith and his wife Caitlin, and a real-life incident in which her childhood friend Vera Phillips, played by Knightley, and her future husband open fire on Thomas’ home with a machine gun and a hand grenade.
In an event that is sure to inform the course of many a young man’s sexual awakening, Lindsay Lohan has signed on to star with Keira Knightley in The Best Times of Our Lives, and La Lohan has revealed that “there's somewhat of a lesbian undertone” between the characters the two actresses are playing. SCORE!
Sadly, the film is probably not the kind of softcore romp my sensationalistic title would lead you to believe – it’s written by Knightley’s mom, playwright Sharman Macdonald. It’s about a true incident in the life of Dylan Thomas when his wife Caitlin’s childhood friend Vera Phillips came to visit with husband-to-be William Killick… and Killick ended up attacking Thomas’ home with hand grenades and a machine gun.
This is why I don’t have friends stay at my place when they’re in town.
Knightley will be playing Vera, while Lohan will be Caitlin. "It's a beautiful and amazing movie - a piece [that] takes place at the time of World War II," Lohan said. "I have a child in the movie… [Keira] is older than me, but she kind of has a mysterious relationship with my lover.”
John Maybury, who directed Knightley in her memorable nude bath scene in The Jacket, will be helming The Best Times of Our Lives. The film starts shooting in April.
