Leave it to Kimora Lee Simmons to be beyond fashionably late — well over an hour — to her own KLS spring presentation. The advanced contemporary collection, which Simmons launched late last year, is filled with real clothes for women who are bold and strong. Inspired by film noir classics from the Nineties, most notably “La Femme Nikita,” as well as clean architectural shapes, the lineup had a modern-day sex appeal.

Simmons showed plenty of tailored sheaths in graphic black-and-white with splices of color. Suits had a relaxed ease with a slightly boxy cut but when paired with a lace top the look instantly became feminine and chic. Colorblocking was a key visual element, done in everything from a column gown to a biker jacket, while evening offered casual elegance in a silver lamé Grecian-inspired gown and a jumpsuit with beaded geometric embellishments. Simmons also debuted luxe denim this season, positioning it as her version of Americana.
