Knee/Thigh High Socks

^Are you getting the ribbed ones? Because I had to get the normal ones coz the ribbed ones haven't come in.

Ok, here they are then.

What exactly is the difference between the ribbed and normal ones? Are the ribbed ones the ones that were on the runway? I am going to check Prada to see if they have any more of these, but 67 American dollars  for these socks are a bit pricey. The socks are so gorgeous though, they could be worth the splurge

Both the ribbed and plain ones were on the catwalk in both grey and black. The ribbed ones are a slightly darker grey than the plain ones.

$67 strikes me as a bit of a deal! i'd drop that for these beauties

i finally got my rebecca turbow socks, i'll post a pic soon, promise! they're awesome!

$67 for a pair of socks? And I thought $20 was expensive for a pair of socks. Hey, I think there's a bridge I might be able to sell you, yeah, the Golden Gate bridge. Real cheap. I'll make you a deal.

I wouldn't mind paying the 67$ if I could get my hand on them.

Delicate, pioneering, polished, brave… Miuccia Prada experiments with shorter lengths, and shifting weights and textures. Prada painted white silk dress embroidered with seashells, gray ribbed tights, and black patent square-toe platforms.

Was anybody else turned off by the idea of socks with heels at first?

Since then, though, they've grown on me... and I LOVE the Prada ads.

^ those are tights!?.....

if you look closely they stop a little above her knee. The only reason its called tights in that photo because its so long, compared to the scrunched up look on the runway.

I always thought socks had heels...

Stockings were quite the rage on the ever-so-important Prada and 20th-anniversary Dolce & Gabbana catwalks. This is one weird trend for SS06, or for any Spring /Summer seasons for that matter. I mean, stockings are usually present in loads of FW shows, but who in real life wears stockings in hot weather?

In the Prada show, stockings start right above the knees and are worn kind of crumpled. The material is translucent and slighly shiny. The key is to match the black or grey stockings with white/ neautral-colored shifts. And of course, it is only in the world of Miuccia that it's ok to wear stockings with sandal platforms and still look so elegant.

In the Dolce & Gabbana show, stockings start mid-thighs. You can only see this in some outfits (where the shorts/ skirts are short enough to see.) I didn't actually notice this was a trend at Dolce until the new SS06 ads were released:

Btw, I heard many bad comments about this ad. I admit the 'lying on top of hay' concept isn't exactly what I pictured for this sophisticated season, but have you notice that everything in the background including hay is of neautral-colored? Talk about theme!

Oops, ran off the topic a bit. The question now are stockings going to become a main stream trend? The answer is: only if it's picked up by high street stores. But from experience, many Miuccia trends are so fashion-foward that most people don't actually pick it up, (or maybe Miuccia designs are just not sl*tty enough for the mass.)

Good question.... To be honest I don't think this is a trend that is going to be making it big and mainstream... Knee high socks are already very very available (being a classic), and to be honest, they do not look very flattering on most people so I don't think it'll be a good investment for high street stores to produce them... In limited quantities probably, but it's not like they were going to replace the huge legging trend...
