Tell us about your journey as a male model so far
I met a stylist in Japan who introduced me to the agency. They really liked me and signed me right away. I started my modeling career when I was 19 years old so I don’t think I was too young to start, and it’s only my second season so I’m having a lot of fun. I liked clothes even before I started modeling; when I was in high school I used to go a lot to cheap second-hand shops near my house and I still wear some of them today.
What is Japanese fashion to you?
Fashion is a big part of Japanese culture. It’s amazing and totally unique. Everyone has a totally different style and young people use their style to express themselves and their personalities. So it’s easy to know what someone is like by looking at their clothes.
Since your first show, what have you learned about the fashion industry and your job as a model?
It was very different to walk in Japan compared to walking abroad, but now I’m totally used to it. I’ve learned to be patient and not to rush myself. It’s really important to surrender yourself to the experience and try and talk to everyone.
