L.A. Galaxy interested in Beckham

^ yeah, I also thought it was going to be NY, but they were probably thinking of the best place for the kids and I think California was a great choice.

And I think it would really increase interest in soccer here b/c he's such a huge name in sports. I think it's sad that soccer isn't more popular here.
It might increase interest in soccer...
But it might also have the reverse effect, since David is the world's most famous "metrosexual". That won't sit well with a lot of straight men.

But yes, it is indeed sad that soccer isn't more popular here.

I was shocked to hear this since its been in the rumor mills for years about them coming to America an now its actually confirmed. Im sure Victoria will be lighting up Rodeo Drive & Forum Shops(hopefully wont step ont0 robertson) weekly in a paparazzi mayhem! In a way I wish they stay in Europe now everyone in America is going to know who they are. An LA I hope their style doesnt slip an they keep it Euro Couture when they go out. They seem way more New York & Miami then LA but hopefully like said they will shake things up maybe celebs will feel the pressure an step their style game up but we will see.

^^Yeah thats right,George Best and Johann Cryif have played in America too!

I've never heard Beckham speak in an interview until tonight when they showed a 15 second clip of him talking on NBC News.....Now, Beckham is a pretty big guy. He's tall, muscular and very manly looking but he has such a girly voice! It's so high-pitched that I burst out laughing when I heard it.

The poor guy....I can't even take him seriously anymore

the guy is so ego-driven..or maybe that just his creepy wife manipulating...soccer leagues in the US are no where as prestigious as the ones in europe, spain, italy, england..daveboy and wife want to go to hollywood, as simple as that.

I know exactly what you mean! His voice is so unnatractive!

I don't think that David is going to be the soccer superstar he might expect to be over here; soccer just isn't a big enough sport. I mean, yeah, its popularity will increase but not that much. Same with Victoria; American's will forever associate her with the Spice Girls, and thats not really a good thing. There will be media interest in the beginning but it will die down. But I'm sure they'll love living in the Hollywood social scene.

I am SO *ucking happy this is happening. Its all I can think about for the last 24 hours! The thought of having Posh and him in my backyard is the most exciting thing since my engagement to my fiance!

^^It really is ridicilous,i think all these sportsmen are overpayed.
Imagine that;he will get 1$ million a week and that dosent include financing heavily by endorsements and including bonuses based on performance and the future success of the MLS.
Its just crazy money but its the way the deals have been done in Sport world for years.
Sportmen or even actors are never overpaid per se. Whatever crazy amounts are thrown their way, just remember that somewhere there is some exec sitting on his a$$ all day who is making 10 times more out of the star's image/movie/etc.

So, it`s official: David Beckham is no longer a Soccer-Player but a Hollywood Star...

Well, was about time Victoria got her way and they moved to the glitz and glam she longs for.

The paparazzi will love them!

I just feel sorry for the boys who`ll grow up in a superficial Tinseltown and will probably drug-addicts by the age of 13

Haha! I Love Perez Hilton For This!

David Beckham statement >

The Los Angeles Galaxy have completed arguably the biggest transaction in MLS history Thursday, signing midfielder David Beckham from Real Madrid.
Beckham has agreed to a five-year deal with the Galaxy. He'll join the club during the summer transfer window after his contract with Real expires on June 30.
"This week, Real Madrid asked me to make a decision regarding my future and the offer to extend my contract by a further two seasons," Beckham said in a statement. "After discussing several options with my family and advisers to either stay here at Madrid or join other major British and European clubs, I have decided to join the Los Angeles Galaxy and play in the MLS from August this year.
"I am proud to have played for two of the biggest clubs in football and I look forward to the new challenge of growing the world's most popular game in a country that is as passionate about its sport as my own."
The move was made possible by the November implementation of the league's Designated Player rule, which states that a club may sign one player at a salary above the league maximum, with the league paying for the amount up to the maximum and the club picking up the rest.
"David Beckham is a global sports icon who will transcend the sport of soccer in America," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "His decision to continue his storied career in Major League Soccer is testament to the fact that America is rapidly becoming a true 'Soccer Nation' with Major League Soccer at the core. In the last few years, MLS has added three new teams, six new owners, four new soccer specific stadiums and signed four long term television agreements. The addition of David Beckham represents another significant step forward for the MLS and the sport."
Under new Real Madrid coach Fabio Capello, Beckham has seen his playing time decrease at the Bernabeu. This season, Beckham has started 10 of Real's 17 games and come off the bench in two more, playing a total of 601 minutes so far. He's scored twice, including once off a free kick, and he's provided one assist.
Perhaps the most well known soccer player in the world, Beckham is renowned for his superior crossing ability and masterful free kicks. His free kick strike against Greece in 2001 sent England to the 2002 World Cup Finals.
Though he has yet to appear for England under new national team boss Steve McClaren since the 2006 World Cup, Beckham has made 94 appearances for his country, good for fifth all-time on the squad. He made his debut for Glenn Hoddle in 1996, and served as captain from late 2000 through this past summer's World Cup.
The winger has scored a total of 17 goals on the national team level. Arguably the most important of them was his penalty kick goal against archrival Argentina in the opening round of the 2002 World Cup. The goal was the only one of the game, providing England with a 1-0 win to help soothe the pain of their shootout loss to the South Americans in the first knockout round in 1998. Beckham was sent off in that defeat.
At the club level, Beckham signed as a trainee with Manchester United in 1991 after playing in the Tottenham Hotspur youth system, and he made his senior debut with the Red Devils two years later.
During a decade-long career with United, Beckham won six English Premiership titles, including in 1999, when the club won the storied "treble" by claiming the Premiership, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League trophies in a single season. Beckham and Man United also captured the FA Cup in 1996. He scored a total of 86 goals with the club.
In 2003, Beckham was sold to Real Madrid for a staggering $41 million. He was part of Real president Florentino Pérez´s campaign to acquire a club of megastars, which also brought Zinedine Zidane, Luis Figo and Ronaldo to the Bernabeu. Despite their star-studded lineup, though, Real haven't been able to win a trophy since the 2002-03 campaign. In addition to being a talent on the field, Beckham has proven to be a massive boon to the bottom line. When he signed with Real, sales of jerseys and other merchandise skyrocketed, helping Real to eventually overtake United as the richest club in the world. Jason Halpin is a contributor to MLSnet.com. anyways As for Hollywood having Posh Glitz & Glamour she had more of that in the Glam Factory we call Europe.

She (they) is SO OVER here! We don`t have as many Paparazzi and you don`t get (or stay) "famous for nothing" over here. Of course, she is "famous" and photographed but only for being her cheating-husband`s anorexic, suffering Fashion-doll. There is nothing glamorous left on her and good looks can`t be turned into good headlines over here, like the US.

It`s time they moved to the US where they can - at least try to - jump on the "sophisticated Brits with charming accent" image...

(I just hope they don`t do like Robbie Willams; move over to get away from the attention and then cry that nobody knows them... )

^
hahha everybody knows they are trash, accent ot no accent

posh is soooo desperate for hollywood fame

I don't know how much he will increase soccer's popularity in the US...
didn't Pele try to do that in the 70's and fail? ( and he was the best ever!!!)
Of course Pele wasn't married to Posh so who knows.:innocent:

Ugh....Posh and Beckham don't give a crap about soccer or about playing for the U.S. They just want to expand their merchandising and customer base. Supposedly they've been trying (unsuccessfully) for years to break into the U.S. market with their perfumes, CDs, clothes, etc. I guess they've decided that the only way to turn pounds into dollars is to move to L.A. under the guise that they want to help make soccer more popular in the U.S.

^ Obviously everyone here knows that but I just feel better ranting about it

wow 250 plus all the reality shows and endorsements along the way....could someone be th enext Oprah in the near future? He is the perfect soccer player for the USA.....he is made for TV! aND US PROBABLY GOIN TO ATTRACT SOME ATTENTION TO THE GAME OUT THERE
