I really like it, the dresses in #27 and #18 are gorgeous. I adore Gemma's coat in #1 as well. But that green thing... . I don't know whether I should laugh outloud or scream. I can't wait to see more.

PARIS, March 5, 2006 – Last time around, Alber Elbaz's fierce, streamlined, high-platformed collection raced ahead of the season, igniting a lady-versus-power-woman debate that has only just burst into flame on other runways. For fall, Elbaz turned away from that thought to engage in a less obviously agenda-setting round of small talk: the conversation about the legacies of midcentury haute couture houses that is currently mesmerizing many Parisian designers.

Thus, the collection picked up Christian Dior's New Look (hip-padding), Cristobal Balenciaga's volumes (flounced tent dresses and swing-back coats), Elsa Schiaparelli's surrealism (illusion effects), and Saint Laurent's pantsuits (tuxedo dressing). That set Elbaz up for a challenge: how to modernize those shapes, and how to meld them into the empathetic, wardrobe-building style that has been his personal gift to the modern Lanvin woman.

When he concentrated on easy-to-wear party dresses, Elbaz was on home territory. His ballerina-like numbers of draped tulle on nude backgrounds, a black silhouette with an inverted triangle for a top and a full skirt below, and slim black dresses with bright satin folds inserted into the front were all in that lovely vein. Elbaz's inventive jewelry—big neckpieces made from crystal and gem-set teardrops of jersey—also put him in a category of his own.

Elsewhere, though, the designer's more-intellectual experiments with form could end up leading him into an uncharacteristic collision with women's sensitivities. Those who dress to avoid broadness of beam and kindly inquiries of "When's it due?" may not leap to invest in molded, stand-out hips or dresses that swing (out, and out again) from the shoulder. Still, this collection held out a lot that was less assertively "fashion"-conscious—like the smoking looks and some great coats. These constitute the kind of personal, under-the-radar chic that makes women rave about Elbaz, even when he's not in ground-breaking mode.

I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to judge this collection by itself without the associations of Lanvin/Elbaz attached to it because this is not impressive at all. Some of it is just downright hideous.... I also think the super flare of the smock dresses is a little excessive with the volume.

Of course, some of the dresses are beautiful but altogether, they look a little uninspired and 'one trick pony' comes to mind. Some of you are gonna send me hate PM's but I'm just not enthusiastic about this at all....

Love most of it. Some of it seems a bit Chloe-esque but still very Lanvin. LOVE the big door Don't like the fur though

I am not happy. The spring collection was one of my favorites; everything was so chic. This all just looks dumpy and uninspired. There is no cohesiveness; some of it looks like it could be Jil Sander and other things look like they could be Ungaro. Very disappointing.

I don't mind the the evening stuff, but the coats are way too mumsy. I liked the harshness of this summer's collection much more...cool doors though

LOOOOOVE the setup !!!!! Those doors are so cool!! It makes the models look like dolls in a dollhouse. And that chandelier..... LOVE IT !!!!!
I like a lot of the dresses, especially the last four in post #48 and Caroline Winberg's one..... Overall, probably not Elbaz's strongest collection but still one of the best for this season . Then again maybe I'm just being biased because I love Lanvin .

i really loved the second half of the show...my facourite is te black dress with the chartreuse-coloured silk front. but yes, underwehlming for lanvin..and kinda all over the place.

BUT, i have to say that even amongst the gazillion brands in a store lanvin always stands out...

it's official..this guy's definitely stronger for spring
