Lanvin F/W 2017.18 Paris

I just remember when they said Bouchra was going to be the CD of Lanvin and everybody was happy because it was a woman. I was like... who cares about her gender, a CD shouldn't be a woman or a man, he/she should just be good for the job.

Yes, it's a woman, and what she's doing here is as irrelevant as it gets, has zero fashion factor (that could be refreshing, but it isn't in this case) and it's just BORING. :rolleye:

It's pretty, pretty, pretty but nothing more than that. I guess two collections are enough to realize that she isn't moving Lanvin in an exciting direction.

I really like the sculpted black pieces; you can tell that an incredible amount of work went into them and they look very flattering. I absolutely adore the flower-printed white silk suit; so sharp it could cut you. I wish she did more of that. The twisted necklines are also nice in some looks. But other than that, nothing new or good whatsoever.

^^I think the majority of us was happy back then because she was really good at her own brand. But yeah, Lanvin is irrelevant again. This collection isn't as bad as the summer one, but I don't think it's gonna work as a Lanvin collection. And not because it's not Elbaz-ish. It's because it brings nothing new or exciting to the table and, what's worse, there's no mood. It's just soulless and cold.

It's not ugly or bad...it just looks like expensive Zara clothes. Alber Elbaz used to make us dream, told stories with his castings, sets, colors, textures, accessories and of course clothes.

He was a generous designer. Jarrar doesn't give much and I am tired of seeing the same colors again and again. Girl, there is more than ivory/navy/black in this world. I know she worked with Ghesquière, but her Balenciaga FW05/ SS05 references have been seen and re-seen for too long now.

This is so generic. As much as people thought Lanvin was kind of one note during Elbaz's later years, his clothes were brimming with romance in that chic parisienne way.

Couldn't have said it better myself

It's very pretty. And that's where all the positives stop.

If this is the clothing they want to keep women of color from... I doubt they'll even remember this exists when it hits stores, so... mission accomplished, I guess?

^Isn't Bouchra a woman of color herself?

I totally agree about the colors of the garments... So tiring, my gawd!! I think in two or three more collections she'll be out.

I think its stunning. No, the collection isn't reinventing the wheel - but it's an incredibly solid collection of luxurious, immensely wearable, stylish clothes.

Agree. Generic and Boring. And let's face it, she makes luxurious nightwear...nothing more. Well, nevertheless, Those jackets are fab.

This makes me wonder why she was asked to design Lanvin. I mean, it was said that Elbaz cocktail dresses stopped being on trend and that their business wasn't that well handled...So, Jarrar is supposed to make an exquisite and exciting daywear.

I don't see daywear in that! Putting a satin dress with brogues is not believable as daywear. This seems a bit disconnected to reality as a proposition. It's very lounge with some black & blue pants but i wonder if we need to go to Lanvin to buy that.

It's a no for me but that doesn't take away her talent. So many bad fits in designers/brands lately...It's terrible!

The collection is not good, it doesn't even feel like a fall collection - looks just like the spring one, but the casting saves her i guess.

I think she's injected a bit too much of herself into these designs, put this alongside things from her own line and it would just be a continuation of the same thing- and she does better daywear under her name than she did here.

The collection is fine. It's not groundbreaking, but its lovely and she is still finding her feet.

If gender doesn't matter, why are most heads of houses men? I guess men just happen to be better designers/better fits for jobs than woman 99 percent of the time. Funny how that happens

^ didn't you know? male opinions on womenswear are also more accurate in this post-truth world where experience actually affects objectivity.

I think it's a nice collection to look at considering the times and how fashion keeps getting blander, this has a delicacy that feels refreshing for a change. But comparisons are inevitable, and I look at these satin pieces and feel attracted to them and then get flashbacks of that Fall 2004 collection with the satin dresses and fur.. and feel sad about how low our expectations have fallen and how we have to settle with such mediocrity these days.
