Lanvin Pre-Fall 2010

It's a leopard print anyway, it could have been fur with no print... The point's everybody thinks he's only used one kind of silhouette and it's not true.

The only brand that can use animalier prints without being ridicolous is Blumarine, not Lanvin for sure...
And what's going on with those HIDEOUS boots on Elsa in the last picture? YIKES!

I think animal prints are never ridiculous or vulgar... I adore leopard, Dior did and Chanel used it too, it's a really beautiful print.

This is animal print at it's best, most of the time it can look trashy, but this is just on a whole new level..
The third look is gorgeous, love the headscarf and prints.

i think most people refer to the fact that the pre-fall and resort collections remains far less boiffant than his ready-to-wear collections

As a fan of Elbaz, I really love is RTW collections, so this change of direction is better not be permanent. It's nice that he's trying new things, but I'm not really into fur or animal prints, to be honest...

people seem to be very "worried" about this becoming somewhat permanent in the lanvin collections.
it's not like he's going to turn into some sort of bling bling bimbo versace from the early naughties...
it's just one season of print, and fun, and experimenting with other references. and it's beautiful too!!!!

Never thought Elbaz would make something like this. I'm not used to him using animal prints. While it's nice to see him doing something a bit new and different for Lanvin, there are MANY more and better ideas and trends he could have focussed on than animal prints.

i like the texture overload that's going on in the first look.
i really hate leopard prints, especially head to toe. but the third look is nice, i like the combination with the lace tights. the other two leopard looks-not for me.

I'm assuming this is the full collection:

I feel like I like this collection a lot. It's different from what we've been seeing from Alber for the last two years (has it been that long since SS08?!?!), so it looks freshing and interesting. Some pieces have a very Lacroix look to them and others remind me a bit of the Chanel Moscow collection.

On the whole, I'm impressed. There are some pieces I'm not crazy about, but there are plenty of looks that I love.

^Im gonna have to disagree, I don't see a huge change in this collection from Elbaz' usual subtle elegance. I think it's the prints that really give the impression of change but really most of the dresses (especially the 2nd to last one) are very Lanvin.
However the print boots are surprising.

it's kind of funny to watch how different the reaction to animal print is when it's done by lanvin vs. dior.

The collection is just stellar, I love practically everything about it  Again I just can't imagine the world of fashion without Alber, he made wonders with the prints and did manage to avoid ending up tacky the way Italian Glam does sometimes.

And though the head-to-toe sets look quite extreme, I like how Nicole Phelps summed it up: one thing is showing the clothes in the presentation and the other separating the layers when it comes to wearing them. It's quirky and playful but in the end of the day beautiful and wearable.

Alber is the best fashion designer out there, and just for that reason the expectations are really high.

I love Lanvin, but I'm not really into the animal print overload. That being said, I loooove some of the individual pieces like the furs and scarves

^a leopard print fur coat is not quite the same thing as using leopard in this way. this is much more carefree with respect to these animal patterns. great reference though!
