Laptops

I've got a Sony Vaio VGN-NR32L & I'm really pleased with it. It came with Windows Vista Home Premium & I've also got Network 3 mobile broadband too.

im thinking of getting this;

http://www.apple.com/uk/macbook/white/

Do macs come with a version of word/excel? & can I move documents from my laptop to my home computer with no problem?

Just wanted the input of actual mac/laptop users--rather than sales people.

Never had a mac before...opinions? Thoughts?

im kinda worry I can get a windows laptop that does the same-but cheaper

much appreciated:flower:

They don't come with a version of word you will have to get Office for Mac 2008 (Mactopia). But is worth it :)

When I got my Mac, I was offered a Microsoft Package (with words, powerpoint, msn, etc) or an Apple package (with keynotes, pages, etc). I bought the Apple package because I was so sick of Microsoft at that point but now that I have both, Microsoft is much better at text editing software than Apple.

So I would suggest getting the Microsoft for Mac package with a Macbook :flower:

also a mac genius (to be found at their retail stores) can move all your files from your PC to your mac for free. I am on my tried and trusty old laptop now, but am getting a macbook as a graduation gift. Not sure I can wait until the end of the semester. I was debating between the pro and the regular macbook, but in the end opted for the regular since I really won't use all the features of the pro and it's bigger/heavier and I travel a lot and don't need a 17 screen. I can't wait though....

^I have an HP too, the tablet version. The battery is inefficient and it runs on vista, which I absolutely hate. But other than that it's still a good latptop, and does enough to get me through school.

I have an IBM Thinkpad with Windows XP. Pentium M 750 1.86 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HDD. A really nice laptop.

HP laptops are also good. I had one before my new IBM.

As for MACs, I can't stand them. I've had bad history with them, so never again lol.

my fiancé run XP on her macbook pro. Works like a charm, actually much better than on a normal PC laptop

The cheapest laptop is 1299. That is before adding in other things.

With the way the economy is, I can't afford to buy things like that anyway.

Heh, yeah, that is the downside. I'm not trying to make you spend money you don't have, just thuoght I'd mention in this thread that even though a mac is way more expensive than a PC, it's also an investment. It will last longer without problems, and it will increase productivity. But then again, wherever you'll invest in a laptop depends on your use. I am dependent on it for work but if you just need a laptop for internet, emails etc. then you probably could spend the money better elsewhere.

I would have to add Windows to it anyway. I am not familiar with the MAC systems. The last time I had a MAC, was in the 90's lol.

i own a Lenovo(former IBM) Thinkpad R500 with fingerprint, it's functional and a robust construction, very ordinary design and black, i like it. so far i'm satisfied

I know IBM makes nice looking thinkpads, but for some reason, the ones my mum get through work looks like big black bricks. A lot of people complain about the quality of HP, but mine have always lasted quite well considering their heavy use. I just retired my old one (in favor of a new macbook) and near the end it was really slow, the fan was not as efficient and the battery wouldn't last more than an hour without needing to be charged. But it held up well.

And you get macbooks for cheaper than 1299. You can get the older white macbooks for 999, or go into the refurbished section which has some good deals from time to time.

well you are kind of right, they are quite unspectacular looking but most functional^_^

the model i do have

I have HP Compaq 6720s and I dislike it. Because one month after warranty expired screen broke, so now I have a lot of green stripes all over the screen. Changing of this screen cost almost as much as new laptop. I hope I get a new one for my bday...
