i wasn't sure whether to create a thread for transparency in general which i think is definitely a continuation from s/s08 and 07 (Mette created a great thread for it last s/s )....or to create it with a focus on transparent materials as layers which i have noticed in a lot of s/s09 collections so far..

not only are there a lot of sheer and see-through materials being used...but designers seem to be using them in clever ways as a tool for layering over patterns, solid colours, etc.
...i've also noticed a lot of sheer materials being used to contrast with more structured, stiff materials and shapes... i am not very good at explaining myself here, so let me see if pictures will help. :p

i love all this sheerness on the runways....i feel like it's being used really beautifully and in interesting ways..:crush:

what do you guys think? :flower:

I think you used a lovely title for this. :p:heart:
It could easily be dumped in the transparency bag but suggesting it's all in the name of lighting makes me look twice at this and appreciate it for another round.. I love that sheer layers look gorgeous thrown on just about anything.. that's where I like it the most, when it's a layer and not the base of an outfit, gives it another dimension.

thank you adorefaith!.

thank you Mullet!. :D and you're absolutely right...i think the idea of creating and playing with light because of the layers is the most interesting part...^_^ i also think that transparent layers are much more do-able in real life... they can be worked into an 'ordinary' wardrobe much easier than just one see-through layer which is appealing i think

some of these arent quite used for layering purposes but i think they're nice examples of transparency anyway.. i like the contrast with the tougher, more aggressive materials ^_^

I love it so much. I can't wait to see if the everyday look is as pretty.

great thread and very well documented. I can't look at this though without thinking of Jil Sander last season and Raf's bright sheers as a layering tool...I'm sure that collection inspired many designers, esp. Louise Goldin's full length sheers

that third dress of Jeremy Laing is to die for:wub:
when I first looked at it quick I thought it was writing underneath

I love it when they use transparancy in voluminous silouettes, because you can still see the bodyshape underneath like the second and fourth picture of Vera Wang

It's not that kind of in your face sexy that you can see in other trends, it's more subtle

i really love all the different ways this is being done this season...

the volume in a lot of the pieces is especially great...
body conscious without actually touching the body in many cases..

great spotting adore!
