I think its got a lot to do with it being more "blair waldorf" which isnt a bad thing, the styling they do on the character blair is amazing. Its nice to see Leighton isnt afraid to experiment though I suppose.

Chiming in on the "wishing Leighton dressed more like Blair" discussion. I actually have to applaud L for trying to differentiate herself from the character she plays. She has spoken in interviews how some fans have been afraid to approach her because they think she must be like Blair--a supermean girl b*tch. (How many interviews does she or one of her castmates do that always reference that she is "nice!" ?)

Plus, consider her background: Her mom was doing prison time when she gave birth to Leighton. Also, Leighton dropped out of high school since she was bullied.


Leighton isn't Blair and to dress like Blair in real life would be a disservice to who she is personally. Not to mention: look how it has backfired on Blake and Taylor (well, in a reverse type of way since their offscreen wardrobes have influenced how they are dressed onscreen). Are either taken seriously? Not really. Blake is dismissed as an Pretty Girl trying too hard to be the It Girl and Taylor has been slammed for her bad girl antics. Leighton, meanwhile, keeps her on and offscreen personas separate, and she's getting inceasingly more attention as the GG actor to watch--and is praised for picking a diversity of roles.

Point taken. However, he did have to his advantage growing up in a era where all men were expected to dress up and dress well and where it was not uncommon for men to wear suits and hats and dressy clothes all day every day, whereas Leighton has come of age in an era where anything goes fashion wise, where there are few, if any rules..

While I do vastly prefer Blair's style to Leighton's style, I think Leighton's is pretty classy for what it is (urban hipster rocker?). While she has her misses, I don't think she purposely tries to come across as trashy or vulgar in how she dresses. And I like that she's such a free spirit. I suppose if I weren't a feminist, I might think otherwise, but I applaud her for not trying to fit into any mold--fan, Hollywood, or media.

(And, yes, even I find it killingly ironic that the fashion styles I try most to emulate in my personal life are those ladylike preppy Blair Waldorf, Princess Diana, Jackie O, Duchess of Windsor, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly styles despite identifying as a feminist.

Boomer, I think it's safe to say I enjoy arguing with you. (I'd love to hire you to be MY stylist though! If you were, I know I'd always look chic! )
