LILY COLE has announced that she will no longer work for De Beers after hearing of Survival International's campaign to reinstate the Botswana Bushmen which it says was evicted by the diamond dealer in order to make way for mining. "I was unaware of these matters when I was booked for the shoot," the British supermodel said. "I am delighted that Lily has heeded our advice and understands the human suffering that diamonds are causing the Bushmen," said Survival's director, Stephen Corry. "I now urge other models not to work for De Beers. De Beers must realise that the only way out of this is for the Bushmen to be given back their land." While the group sees the end of Lily's contract as a triumph in the same vein as the end of Iman's position as the face of De Beers in May last year, De Beers itself says Survival's claims are unwarranted. "Most companies don't use the same celebrities for long periods of time," a spokesman said last year. "The truth is that the Bushmen issue has nothing whatsoever to do with diamonds or De Beers." Hey does anyone know whether Lily signed on with IMG or not? cos according to models.com's top 50 models thing (http://models.com/model_culture/50topmodels/top50.cfm?fnumber=20&lnumber=16), she currently #16. but i'm definite that the agency that it used to say was Storm London and now it says IMG...does IMG have a website with all their models? cos I can't seem to find one....
