Supermodel Lily Donaldson, chosen to open the prestigious Harrods Summer Sale, reveals her beauty secrets
It could have been hard to pin down one of the world's top jet-setting models to talk make-up, but luckily this London-born beauty - not to mention Vogue covergirl and Victoria's Secret model - took time out of opening the Harrods Summer Sale to talk us through her top tips.
What are your five top beauty products?
Simple wipes because they are easy to carry around and are great for travelling; Estée Lauder Night Repair; Avène Day Cream, Aquaphore Lip Repair and Estée Lauder Idealist serum. I like simple, good quality products.
What is the one beauty product you cannot live without?
Lip balm and a good moisturiser.
What is your exercise regime?
I try to walk as much as possible and I love Pilates. I also horse ride and swim as often as I can. I like to get fresh air and have fun while I exercise - to distract me!
How do you prepare for a big show, such as Victoria’s Secret?
I eat well, sleep and drink lots of water. I also try to be more active and get in extra Pilates classes!
How do you keep your hair looking healthy through the fashion show season?
That’s very hard but I will sometimes use leave-in conditioner at night during the shows.
What is your failsafe red carpet beauty tip?
If you don’t have a lot of time, then I use something simple like a lip stain or tint. But if you want to go for it, a really good lip colour - a red - can be very dramatic and can help an outfit become glamorous.
What’s the most common beauty complaint amongst models?
During the [fashion] shows your skin really goes through a lot; a lot of make-up goes on and off your face up to five or six times a day. The biggest complaint for me is always sore eyes from rubbing eye make-up off quickly, so a gentle make-up remover and a good eye cream is crucial.
What’s the best tip a make-up artist has ever given you?
Pat McGrath taught me many things: taupe on the eyes, how to highlight the right parts of your face, and also how to apply lipstick with your finger!
