Each year the Victoria’s Secret show wows the audience with its extravagant costumes, incredible sets and standout performers, and this year is no different. Held in London for the first time ever, the show will feature 29 Swarovski-crystal encrusted costumes, two Fantasy Bras worth $2 million each, and performances by Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran. It will also include one extra-special costume worn by Angel (and fellow Brit), Lily Donaldson. Constructed of 150, 000 Swarovski crystals, the piece was custom-made for Donaldson by French designer Serkan Cura, who also has his own couture line. The piece, which features two butterflies perched on Donaldson’s shoulders, a crystal-encrusted corset and floor-grazing fringed belt, was inspired by “fairies and butterflies that I kept seeing all over the couture catwalks,” Cura told us by phone from Paris. “It was an incredible procedure that took months to complete. Five people worked for several hours each day for months. One small section alone requires two people working for five hours!”
The exquisite piece will appear in the Fairies section, and according to Donaldson, wearing it is a huge honor. “I wanted to create something that no one had ever seen before, something that would make you think ‘wow, I didn't even think that was possible’ when you looked at it,” explained Cura.
And while the show includes many different themes (a Swarovski-encrusted black corset is another favorite of Cura’s), if Donaldson had any say, the next VS show would be centered around a tropical Jamaican theme, along with jerk chicken post-show.
