Liu Wen

I wish she would have gotten a blue chip campaign this season. I thought she would have gotten at least something big after the American Vogue cover.

I do have a feeling that Liu will have a big blue chip season in 2018 when she's around 30. It's overdue but it will happen I am sure. She's been working hard for a decade and deserves at least three blue chip campaigns in one season.

My dream is for her to get Louis Vuitton, Bottega Veneta, Max Mara, and Lanvin next season. She's much more talented than the newer crop of models to emerge from the past few seasons (Bella H, Vittoria, Taylor H, Selena, Faretta, Taylor H, Kiki, Grace E, etc) and deserves to have the kind of HF campaign success they're having.

^ Ah, you're making it more depressing. And I'm kinda dumbfounded too. Not sure why some brands and industry folks aren't taking advantage of Liu Wen's platform and presence. Sure, we know there's no guarantee there, but I learned that it doesn't really matter or not(?), because enlisting her for the job, the brand would still benefit regardless whether they'd make a profit or not... something along those lines because thanks to technology and social media. So the company will still get PR and traffic and a presence via Liu Wen's network. Something like that.

Well I'd like to think that Chanel saw the prospect and gain by going after her. Very happy that she'll at least have a history with the brand (because obviously she's very fitting for the brand but won't get to front their RTW campaigns unfortunately).

But right, she should have gotten more bluechip campaigns in the past. And maybe she'll get her time later like you said.

At the same time, Liu Wen is more of a celeb-model now (at least it looks like from front-row shows to most of her fashion editorials recently, and her side activities), so I think her focus has definitely shift a bit and I do believe she's on the path of making a "new" image of herself... so perhaps she's not all that concerned about these campaigns(?). And like other members pointed out, she's more about making $$$ and she's more successful in the commercial arena. So, yeah... if she's happy then we should accept that. Haha.

Even though shortage of bluechips, I still appreciate those times and am always excited to hear whenever she get something high fashion (:covetable) such as US Vogue or her recent Vogue Italia cover. I still believe she has more fuel to make high fashion stories and relevant in hugely because she's part of the fabric of those models who've made an impact to the fashion/modelling/beauty/social aspect of this multilayered industry. Like I said before, even if she didn't get this campaign or isn't on that cover, I/we deeply know that she's truly bigger than that of what she's not getting in return. Liu Wen is forever treasured as history and will continue to be part of the conversation and the scene. She's still here after all.

With that said, I too share some of the same sentiments as you.

I'd be fine if she gets a cool cover for FW17. ^_^:lucky:

She got Chanel , so no more with Estee Lauder ?

Yes. This was mentioned a couple pages back. I was personally informed of the confirmation from a reliable source. Basically Liu Wen turned down EL and is now with Chanel.

Am anxious about this Chanel deal. Hopefully it was a big fat contract (at least I was told that it was).

Hope to see her at the VS show, castings are coming up soon...

If it's true that the VSFS17 is going to be in China then I'd want her to be there too. After that, then I think it's time to MOVE ON... that's just how I feel. Idk, she's done enough and made her mark for VS already. Of course she can do as much she wants to.

(Also, wasn't it weird that she got to do VS even if she's contracted/associated with La Perla. Perhaps she was allowed to do their show and it's not like she's promoting VS. Just surprised that she was able to come back even with a competitor. Maybe there were never an issue. VS probably wanted her because of their China investment.)

Hopefully Liu Wen is asked to come back and walk in her home country. That'd be GREAT!

EDIT:

Nevermind, she can do it forever until she get some wings, then call it quits!

I think she will have a big blue chip season in the near future. In fact I think it's inevitable. She has so many social media followers and has had a long and prosperous career thus far. I actually kind of like that idea of her being everywhere in high fashion after ten years of being in the industry. So many girls start off being everywhere for one season or two and then fade away forever into oblivion. Liu made a great decision to pursue the money jobs and commercial jobs because that path has helped her to build a huge and powerful platform. It'll be really interesting to see her make a high fashion comeback when she and her team decide to make that move. I'm glad that she's not faded away like so many of the models of her generation. She's still going strong and I still think the best is yet to come. Liu has been very tactful throughout her career and has stayed relevant because of it. It's going to pay off in a really big way in high fashion someday. High fashion industry loves to take commercial girls and give them a big blue chip season. She's going to have a moment in high fashion like Cameron Russell or Irina Shayk I bet. I really adore Liu's story in a way. She's always been the underdog of the modeling industry and she's persevered and will continue to do so.
