Liu Wen

In other news that has been swirling for a couple of months… It seems the new EIC of VC is Rocco Liu who is the current EIC of GQ China. If true not worried about LW getting covers in the future (though I do sense it’d probably have less models fronting, hope not).

Liked what he has done with GQ China so am intrigued what kind of flair he’d instilled and take VC. Netizens’ mixed reactions on a male assuming the top role though…

Her VC cover where she’s on the staircase is striking but the whole batch is a grower for me like her Vogue France cover story – both underwhelming for rather important issues, but visually good overall.

Looking back at her Vogue China covers under each EIC:

She should be on her way to Shanghai if we are to see her at Balenciaga. Guess she doesn’t have to open/close, her being there would be enough (please don’t let us down Daniel and Elite Paris).

Maybe it was a good thing that she wasn’t there… and great to see other top national models getting the spotlight. Just thought it’d be a nice sendoff for LW leading up to her home country. It’s okay. She did four shows. She did her part. On to other brands.

Speaking of other legacy brands: regarding Burberry she hasn’t done these lookbooks in quite some time, so this is major for LW to partake – are we going to see her in a campaign too a la McQueen (or was that kinda different). It’d be “below” her to simply do a lookbook unless the pay was too good to pass and/or they reached out to her. What was the negotiation like.

Either way looks good on her resume/for another job. (Am aware that other top names are attached to this lookbook, this as well could be a campaign cast too.)

She’s rumored to be on Bazaar China July.

Don’t think this has ever been outlined in Liu’s thread, so here’s her current support team:

Elite World/The Society = Chris Gay (CEO/president)

USA – The Society = George Speros (agent)

UK – Storm = ? Joey Menson (agent) or Miranda Cantacuzene-Speransky (director) or…

Italy – Elite Milano = Elena Mansueto (director)

France – Elite Paris = Helene Caroline Bodet (manager)

Spain – Elite Barcelona = Unknown

China = Chao Lu (manager/agent) + her personal assistant

The Society = Vicky Yang (PR, strategist and coordinator)

From what I personally know and that is public knowledge, these are the key players in managing Wen’s career. Anyone else that has a significant role that isn’t mentioned here?

Not sure who directly handles her activities in London, so to be safe gonna say Miranda. Both Joey and Miranda have engaged with her via social media… but still chooses Miranda (maybe both/neither?). No idea about Barcelona, unfortunately.

Anyway, just to reiterate how much of a change and direction of her career has been these past seven years, especially since 2023 when she came back full force. It’s utterly day and night. The differences in her workload and for who and what. Still speechless. A superb job by this network. Let’s keep this going until she calls TIME OUT…

Apparently she arrived back in Beijing. From where? Don’t know. What? Could be nothing. The past two weeks were definitely quiet and inactive too (speculation and publicly known of course).

It’s also worth noting that there was a switch from longtime Elite Paris’ director Mimi to Helene. Which happened early this year. Not sure if that’s worrisome (or what prompt that, hope it’s all good).

While I have no confirmation but read that Liu’s previous manager/agent for China has retired/stepped away early last year too (last time she was seen publicly with Wen was Chanel FW23). Over a decade relationship of the duo. Bittersweet.

And Vicky has also been with Liu probably a decade now too (we often see her tagging along with Wen to shows and events whenever she’s in NY). And if Vicky is that girl that I think she is, we ought to give her props too. Just feel like she’s been instrumental in nurturing and guiding LW’s career/public image/reputation to an extent too. Her liaison of some sort.

Arriving back to Beijing a few days ago then seen in London yesterday (looks real). Not unusual but wow, that was fast. Was thinking she’d depart towards the end of the week comes HC.

Recently, output has been interesting whenever she's there for London/England... Could she pop up for menswear too.

Think she’s going to skip HC this season. Ever since she flew back from Europe last week was pretty telling. And no Vogue World Paris. Sealed.

On the bright side looks like she’s been shooting locally (contractual) once she arrived back?
