L'Officiel Paris Autumn 2023 : Emma Corrin by Tung Walsh

It's absolutely hideous.

She's the most obnoxious type of celebrity since instagram/tiktok came into our lives.. some type of Doja Cat, delivering something perfectly forgettable, average and brief (a handful of minutes in an Netflix for like a season, some film a lot of teenage girls saw because a pop star is in it..) and proceeds to fabricate and exploit an entire not-like-the-others personality/personal life/tormented 'journey' to compensate for the lack of collective memory towards.. whatever the day job is.

Also what the hell is that cover. The tip of the tower, the necklace, the 'finally without makeup/just my honest self' vibe (as if we care! what do you do again?!).

^^^ Obnoxious personality aside (which is sadly and hilariously expected nowadays from these children), she is capable of looking good.

I get that this pathetic fashion era is all about begging for the likes/follows from the gen z population who reject the efforts of beauty standards for a faux authenticity-- otherwise known as just being lazy and not making the effort. However, when you’re a publication and hilariously one that’s called “The Fashion Issue”, give an actual fcuk and make the effort, because gen z is not paying for this— no matter how much they will relate to it. And fashion vets are insulted by such nonsense that would be immediately deleted if it were a snap from an iPhone. Covers like this deserve to crash and burn the publication out of business.

French publications are such a sad joke now. I’ll just retrieve into the fashion sanctuary of Carine’s and Emmanuelle’s Vogues now; where the highest standards of creative vision in styling, fashion, beauty and graphic design remains so effortlessly glorious and remains untarnished. This current trash can burn.

The inspo

I find her harmless, in fact I like that she’s going against the grain of what an up and coming starlet should look and act like. It’s hardly ever to my taste, but I appreciate the gutsiness.

Quite surprised that this edition is still in operation considering they’re mainly filled with reprints and they hardly get ad buy-in.

^^ yeah like ADC I’m surprised by anyone’s intention to pay for this but mosty that people out there get paid to produce trash like this.

Also the ‘in an Netflix’ was an attempt at something but I’ll preserve the mystery/miserable editing skills. :rofllaughing:

^^^ Maybe it's a trade for print...

Eh— it’s as gutsy as Avril Lavigne’s corporate faux-angst riot grrrrrl marketed as the alternative to Britney/Christina/Destiny’s Child for the suburban tween thinking she’s hardcore because she’s wearing armsocks she bought at her mall's Hot Topic (actual scenario I witnessed of a trio of tweens back in the early-2000s at a suburban mall LOL)

I understand her branding because it absolutely appeals to the pronoun children-- and her handlers know it. And without this branding, she’s rather dime-a-dozen vanilla. Eh.

Who?

I had to google her. She's really only 27? Why does she look like she is in her 40s on this cover?

^^^ LOL No— that’s how an amateur, clueless snapshot taken by anybody who’s just playing with their brand new iPhone, looks. No amount of retouching can save such a sloppy selfie. Truth is, my niece vacationing in Morocco right now, is sending me shots taken on her iPhone that are superior in composition, lighting, clarity and sharpness than this slop.

Emma was in what seemed to be a potentially powerful story called “My Policeman”. Unfortunately, along with Harry Styles, what a slog to get through. They both played their role with all the weight and urgency of muzak and chain-hotel wallpaper. Emma is blandness defined. They were both obviously cast for their relevance to social, because anybody else would have put in a stronger performance. How this individual managed to worm their way into Robert Eggers’ "Nosferatu" alongside his stellar cast, must be because he lost a bet— or one of those cruel jokes of which-one-of-these-does-not-belong, like Winnie Harlow cast alongside high fashion models on the cover of Fashion magazine. (...Maybe George also lost a bet there…)
