IS the tide turning for London fashion? While we have become increasingly happy to call ourselves the birthplace of creativity in recent years as our home grown style talents have migrated to the more financially rewarding catwalks of Paris, Milan and New York, this season it seems anybody who is anybody is keen to come home. True, our catwalks will remain a haven of the world's newest talent, but the party scene is a different, and more recognisable one altogether. Alexander McQueen, whose show will take place in Paris as usual, is bound to have fashionistas clamoring for an invite to the launch of his new Puma footwear line, Burberry's Christopher Bailey will host a party in the Bond Street store to celebrate Michael Roberts' forthcoming coffee table fashion tome and Patrick Cox will bring the beautiful people together for a 20th anniversary party in his revamped Sloane Street store. Just in case you need more excuses to get your glad rags on, GQ magazine will celebrate the launch of its new biannual GQ Style on September 21, Issa designer Daniella Issa Helayel is planning to put the It-girls in a tiz over what to wear to her latest bash, Donatella Versace has said that she will be attending the Giles show as well as hosting a dinner for him afterwards and hostess with the mostess Alice Temperley wants everybody in Shakespearean garb to celebrate her Midsummer's Night party on Thursday night in Holland Park. But the week's main attraction is sure to be John Galliano who is expected to host a party for VOGUE.COM's very own Camilla Morton, to celebrate the launch of her brilliantly funny, stylish and must-read new book, How To Walk In High Heels: The Girl's Guide To Everything. London Fashion Week will run from September 18-22. (September 2 2005, AM)
