Louis Vuitton Men's S/S 2021 Shanghai

I completely agree!
This looks very moodboarded and art directed. You can see it in how the proportions work on the body, it’s very fast very sketch like.
As said before, Walter does this stuff so much better. I get that Vuitton needs a gimmick, and that’s fine, but it can’t mask the completely lack of finesse and quality one should expect from
Fashion at this level and price. People have no standards.

Disgusting little show, tasteless, crass and infantile. Makes no sense coming from him, an unholy matrimony between Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and Van Beirendonck plastered in LV checks is as random as you get.

He's usually just mediocre but now I'm worried for his mental health, should he be medicated? Those stuffed animals hanging everywhere could only come from a disturbed mind.

I’m really curious to know what Virgil (and Kanye) learned during their famous internship at Fendi...And I also want to know why the designers involved believed those jackets were well cut/tailored.

This is 3 years after Balenciaga, without the expertise of an actual designer.

You can have the best and most skilled atelier in the world but if you don’t know anything about the construction, the execution of the clothes, they will always look flat. You can cheat in Streetwear with clever styling, prints or details but tailoring is unforgivable!

Aimless, overambitious. Too many looks and too long of a show, without anything to give. Some of Virgil’s accessories and bags are nice, as usual. I can rarely say the same for his garments.

The mark of a streetwear designer-businessman is only being able to design accessories and nothing else. The shapes of his LV accessories were already there years before his arrival though, so I’m not sure how much credit I should give to him.

I would be more forgiving if this wasn’t such a prestigious house to design for and him thinking this is elevating fashion or doing something important. Rei Kawakubo and Raf Simons did not have a fashion background but were able to do something with their vision and execution with time. Idk why Virgil can’t do that as he’s had more resources and connections than those two in their early careers.

sorry for the rant, just consistently depressed with his work n

I get the impression his devotees don’t care hence why Virgil constantly gets away with such horrific construction and sloppy rip-offs for Vuitton and his own brand. He’s with the Vuitton atelier for crying out loud: masterful construction and tailoring is as easily accessible as drugs for Virgil. He knows his audience (and we're not it). And showing in Shanghai (Asia is his Off-White’s biggest supporter after all) with a motley crew of classic beautiful-challenged Chinese guys wearing what is the equivalent of fashion-as-a-troll but with Vuitton monograms galore, is likely the wettest dream for these fashion victims. Balenciaga/Jean-Charles de Castelbajac/Walter Van Beirendonck will never have the clout and profile that Vuitton has. He’s playing to his strengths and to his supporters: First-impressions and hypebeasts.

The kidz will go crazy over this.

I’m living for the drama… although I think people will just ignore it. Virgil represents what a “designer” is today for a big house. He makes what sells, even if it means exploiting “inspirations” and slapping them with a desirable monogram and faux-intellectualism. Never mind the construction or quality, his buyers do not care. That’s why he gets away with everything.

What a waste of time and resources. It is landfill at best. There is just nothing here.
No clothes, no directional casting, no message to speak of, nothing original, no vision, not a great show or showing.
And just loads of borrowed gimmicks to cover up the emptiness.
They should hire a designer to take over and then let Virgil take a bow at the end if that's what he is there for.
Keep him away until the end.
You also have to feel for a designer like Ghesquiere who works hard and is so talented that this is part LV and that it reflects on him as well.
It brings LV way down to street level. No Pun.

I woke up to Olivier theyskens Instagram stories calling out Virgil lol I’m so excited I hope he gets torn to shreds

Only saw it now, who knew the Belgians had a b!tchy side to them, lol. He tagged in Diet Prada and their silence is deafening. Partly because now is maybe not the right time to accuse a black man of stealing. They're not stupid, they know their followers will turn on them.

As for the collection, agree with Phuel. It's not for us, it's not for fashion either. It's for the hypebeast market who actually believe that they are anti-high fashion (in the traditional sense). They're like the Trumpettes. The more criticism Virgil gets from the high fashion community the more popular he becomes with his base and that will guarantee sales. And what's more, he's well aware that his bosses will make sure he gets the best editorial coverage that will position him above legitimate and respected menswear brands.
