The styling of these is atrocious, I don't care if it's his personal style, market him better.

IN CONVERSATION|LUKE GERNERT

Name|Luke Simpson Gernert
Age|19
Hometown|Pound Ridge, New York

How did you get discovered?
I met Dave from Citizen/Red Models on a MTA train while I was with my girlfriend. I'll admit I wasn't interested in modeling at first, but Dave managed to convince me eventually!
What were you doing prior to modeling?
Going to school. studying science, writing and playing music. I guess modeling is really my first job.
People would be surprised to know that I...
obsessively take notes on my iPhone. Right now, I have several hundred notes containing everything from song lyrics to good ideas for birthday gifts for my friends to random thoughts and jokes I wanted to remember. I almost never look at any of them again after I've written them, but for some reason I just keep writing more and more...
What's your latest obsession?
Science fiction & futurism. I bought a book of short stories by Ray Bradbury and I couldn't put it down
Your most prize possession?
I am not really into possession but if I have to choose one, it would be a 20 pages of long poem my girlfriend wrote for me made up of quotes from our drunk texts to each other
Growing up, who did you look up to as your hero?
Jimi Hendrix—I admired him because his music was unique and changed the scene, and because he seemed like a groovy guy. Also, we are both lefties!
When is the last time you said, "I Love You" to someone?
My girlfriend while we were having breakfast this morning.
Three adjectives that best describes you:
Adventurous, Curious and Passionate
Describe your personal style:
I keep quite simple. I don't really think much about dressing up. Jeans, t-shirts is fine with me or a button down shirt. I like clothes that are comfortable.
Your favorite place you have travel to:
The shell of a burned down hotel on Lookout Mountain in upstate NY. Camped there with some dear individuals. It was quite a climb though.
Your favorite film and scene from the film:
Pan's Labyrinth—Scene: Where the girl has to escape from the creature with eyes on its hands!
Your favorite sport:
Sport: Soccer
Team: Chelsea
Player: Drogba
If there's a destination or item you would recommend us to check out or visit about your native country/city or town, what would you recommend?
Pound Ridge, NY—Overlook—It's a huge cliff in the local wildlife reservation that you can walk to and from my house. It has an incredible view of the valley and the river, and it faces west so it's a great place to see sunsets.
If you were given a indie cable show, what kind of show would it be? Which song would you choose as your opening theme song for the show?
If I was given a television show, I would make it a modern-day remake of the Twilight Zone but I would retain the original style of the show where it seems almost like a play on TV. I would have famous guest stars each week and for the theme song, I would get a different musician each week to cover the original theme of the classic song.
Favorite moment in modeling:
Walking the Prada SS2015 show as a exclusive!
Your wish for the remainder of 2014?
Humans would find a way to move past the concept of money, leaving people with the opportunity to pursue their true passion without worrying about making a living!

Model of the Week : Luke Gernert

Name:
Luke Gernert

Agency:
Red Model Management (New York)

Age:
19

Height:
6’1″

Place of Origin:
Pound Ridge, NY

Ethnic Origin:
French, Dutch, Scottish, and American Indian

Birthsign:
Leo through and through

How discovered:
Dave from RED approached me on a Metro-North train.

Favorite things:
Good conversation, great sushi, inspiring experiences, and my girlfriend.

Favorite music, band:
My tastes are in a constant state of flux but right now I’m on a serious punk kick. My iPod has been all Ty Segall, Richard Hell, the Thermals, and the Clash for weeks. I’ve also been into this sort of slow, crooning electronic music like James Blake and Majical Cloudz.

Favorite movie, tv show:
Favorite movie is tough because there are films I appreciate and respect as pieces of art and then there are the ones that are just a blast to watch. I think To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the greatest films ever made, but Attack the Block might be my favorite. My favorite TV show is the Twilight Zone, hands down.

Favorite designer, fragrance or beauty product:
I love AllSaints and Scotch&Soda, but I rarely buy their stuff cause it’s so expensive. H&M is great. I’ve also made some surprisingly good finds at Target, or as us fashionable folk call it, Targé.

What would you be doing if you weren’t modeling?
Making music and writing.

What’s something uncool that you love anyway?
Wikipedia.

Favorite modeling experience so far?
Doing the Prada SS2015 show was killer. I don’t know what I liked better – the clothes, the set, the awesome music they played, or all the great people I got to meet.

What’s the best thing about your hometown/country?
The best thing about my hometown is that it’s dominated by an enormous wildlife reservation, so I can walk 10 minutes from my house and be on a cliff in the middle of the woods.

Which brand would you really love to model for?
I’d love to work for a brand I’d never even heard of before that turned out to be really cool.

Place you would love to visit:
I’d love to visit some places whose cultures I’ve had minimal exposure to, like China and India. Especially the more rural areas that have escaped Western influence.

Currently you’re obsessed with/about:
Do-it-yourself projects. My next goal is to learn to build a guitar or a record player. I’ve also gotten really into botany, as weird as that may sound. I love bonsai trees. I had this awesome braided pachira named Spiderman but I accidentally left him at school when I came home for the summer. RIP Spiderman.
