L'Uomo Vogue July/August 2017 : David Beckham by David Bailey

The most boring styling I have seen in a lifetime lol COME ON now!!! It´s soooo passé and boring. David deserved better and so does this magazine. The stylist on that story should be fired!

I like how L'uomo writes the headline in English and then the whole magazine is Italian... Not the only magazine who does this, but very misleading.

If the mission was to kill everything thats left of Beckham's sex appeal, mission accomplished, David Bailey, Props. Beckham looks like a random homeless person.

I like it, in his younger days he was too much of everything: too pretty, too sexy.etc But these are great Bailey portraits, and not what i was expecting. Also Becks looks much better now that he is older.

The styling is way too heavy for a double summer issue though! Wtf!

I have 80s issues of L'UOMO, and their coverlines have always been in english, with the english-versions of their featured articles towards the end of the magazine.

David looks fine. There’s nothing wrong with aging and I’ve never found him particularly gorgeous when he was always primped and proper back in the day, so this grizzled, faux-homeless look neither disappoints nor excites me. It's fine.

The problem is the normcore Sears-portrait photography and styling that’s best reserved for an Eddie Bauer-type catalogue. If they wanted to dress him down then just put him in a classic oxford and make an effort with the composition; I don’t care that Bailey took shot this-- it's just so bland. This brand of “ironic” budget-styling really has no place in L’Uomo.

He looks so much like Christian Bale here, it's all I can see.

I prefer Beckham to be primped and polished and sexed up. haha.

The editorial pictures look ok (just ok), but not the cover. I honestly never got David Bailey's hype. Not then, nor now.

His only magazine cover that I like-- or at least remain memorable is the one of him in just his Calvins for Arena Homme Plus back in the early-2000s.

His feature edit here is a snorefest: Just a bunch of bland portraits. If I had to choose... There’s a body shot of him in a Persian-lambskin coat that would have made for a better cover. But ultimately, an edit with David asleep would have been vastly more arresting than this.

There are two really nice edits out of the seven: One with actor Valerio Foglia Manzillo in an advertorial for Bottega, and another with a Turkish/Czarist Russia styling evokes that rich brand of cinematic decadence L’Uomo does so well. Too bad the photography style is a tad on the flat side.

A flaccid issue even with seven edits.
