Lupita Nyong'o

The thief took it back when he found out the pearls were fake. Either way, was that person expected to sell a dress seen by millions? Not a very bright thief.

I think they may have planned on just selling the pearls.

Still, I'm surprised that the pearls were fake if the dress is valued at $150k, at least some of the pearls had to be real, because even with the name and craftsmanship it's still overpriced.

I find it very, bizarre, indeed, that the thief should not only return back the gown, but furthermore, contact TMZ about what they had done - sounds very fishy to me.

Not the first or the last time stylist/celebs team stretched the truth. The dress is gorgeous and a work of art, Lupita wore it well.

True, but usually not celebrities of her stature. They probably thought they could pull the wool over our eyes because of the pearls. I agree with you, the dress looked stunning on her (even if it did look painstakingly similar to the white athletic CK dress she's worn before, sans pearls).

Maybe someone at CK told her stylist it was real. They´re not gonna admit it, better throw a stylist under the bus...

I was surprised to read Akoya pearls, because they don't look real ...

I have had marketing people tell me how it's perfectly legal for them to stretch the truth, as I look at them askance ... you may have noticed that the truth simply doesn't matter to a lot of people ;)

Not long ago SJP wore a dress the designer told her nobody else had worn, and it was a blatant lie. So it does happen, and of course the stylist gets all the blame.

Why is everybody absolving the stylist here when she's should be held accountable along with Costa. I believe this was a custom dress, so quite a few fittings must've taken place. So throughout the design and fitting, neither the stylist nor Lupita bothered to question the origin of these pearls? And isnt it a celebrity stylist's job to ask these questions. I find that rather odd. The way I see it, Team Lupita saw Costa and his people attach the pearls by hand, paired with the craftmanship, and just took it for granted that the pearls were indeed precious. No harm in that though, just own up and move on!

Well, if I can tell from here they don't look real, perhaps the whole team needs an eye exam ;) Probably we'll never know quite what happened ... but hopefully Lupita will take a stronger hand in her press.

Not many people could show that much skin and just look happy :)

I think it is because she genuinely loves having her picture taken and doesn't seem to want desperately to embody the sexy/seductress role... I remember a video where she actually said that she felt like doing a photoshoot was a freeing experience...

She is also quite old for HW standard and I think people tend to forget that she rose to fame in her 30s and not in her 20s. Furthermore she didn't come from a place where she was a small town girl... She is the daughter of a politician, she belongs to a very well known family, she is used to a certain "pressure" to act a certain way and be a role model and in East African families some mistakes are just not tolerated... Which can't be said for girls like Jennifer Lawrence or Kristen Stewart who started at such a young age and are still in their formative years...

I absolutely love all those photoshoot and the styling is often on point with Lupita ! (or maybe she just makes everything look so good!)

Absolutely agree with you!! It's her confidence which I find so enticing. Be it for a magazine or on the rc, her presence commands the photograph. She looks great in red.

She began receiving accolades in HW when she was 30, but Lupita's been active and is famous in East Africa since, her early 20s (featuring in the MTV series Shuga) - and she's been a participant in the East African Filming Industry for a number of years, culminating in her award-winning documentary feature on albinism in 2008. Her directing debut was featured in the New York Film Festival in 2008/9.
