The Red Carpet Highlights of... The 82nd Annual Venice Film Festival 2025!
style.comBrazil is sexy.
For fashion, there is a very thin line in between what is sexy and what is vulgar.
My good friend Juliano Corbetta walks that thin line with class every day with his independent magazine and blog, Made in Brazil. Launching the seventh edition of his collector’s item/book/magazine, Juliano aims to give male models a spotlight so well earned by Brazil’s female models (I don’t think I need to name names here…).
Below, a quick Q&A with Juliano and a preview of the (hot) new magazine that launched this week.
What is Made in Brazil magazine?
“Made in Brazil magazine is an independent publication first launched in Brazil in May 2010 with the intent of providing a more creative venue for Brazilian male models, photographers, and stylists to showcase their work without the boundaries or limitations of the national monthly fashion publications. The main idea at the time was to give the Brazilian boys the same chance to shine like the girls in magazines, and put them front and center for the world to see.
Oh, the Boys
“I believe it first struck a chord and got noticed on an international level because of the way we portrayed the boys on the pages of the magazine, very natural, healthy, and with a heavy dose of Brazilian sex appeal, like male versions of the famous Brazilian bombshells. In spite of its independent nature and limited quantities, the magazine quickly became one of the most notorious publications produced on an international level, and for the past three years it has inspired a whole new generation of independent publications and fashion titles in Brazil. We have featured and launched the career of several Brazilian boys, and also brought big Brazilian male celebrities into the world of the magazine, challenging them to do more risky and creative editorial work with our team.”
Collector’s Item
“From the first issue on, we always treated the publication more like a book or a collector’s item than a fashion magazine. The print is limited to a run of 1,000 copies, all of which are printed in Brazil, individually numbered, and there are no online editions. There are also no advertising pages inside, to make it feel more like a continuous collection of pictures, and up until now there still has been no text in order to keep it more universal and as timeless as possible. All credits are listed in index pages on the back of the issue to keep the focus on the photography, and we refrain from even using a logo on the cover.”
The New Issue
“The seventh issue of Made in Brazil, which launched the first week of November, is about generations, and it brings back older Brazilian models alongside a new crop of boys. It is the biggest issue yet, with 200 pages, and it features more than forty Brazilian male models, the most we have ever featured in the magazine. It is a celebration of iconic men’s fashion photography, and of male models in general, featuring a career retrospective of Evandro Soldati, Brazil’s biggest male model export to date, with never-before-seen archive pictures from some of his first shoots, along with a new story photographed in Rio by Cristiano Madureira. It is also perhaps the most personal issue we’ve done, with candid pictures provided by the models mixed in with fashion editorials featuring the Fall/Winter menswear collections for the Northern Hemisphere next to the Brazilian Spring/Summer collections.”
Made in Brazil is available in Brazil at Livraria Cultura, at Livraria Travessa in Rio, and at Casa Magazines in New York. It can also be purchased online with worldwide delivery at www.madeinbrazilmag.com.
