Madonna to Adopt a baby

^ haha.

It's really crazy and very un-like Madonna. When I first told my sister she said "Ok, she needs a hobby because she's really bored"

VainJane, mixed race kids are the Chanel of babies and adopted African kids are the Hermes!

  I don't get her anymore.....I don't get really anyone in hollyweird
anymore.

I just read that her rep denied this...
anyone else hear that?

Yes, I saw this story on MSNBC this morning. They said the story may have been lost in translation with the government.

Honestly, when Angelina Jolie first adopted a kid. I was supporting her...
but now it seems as if other celebrities (especially the "dying" ones) are adopting and helping the environment/ the world, just to be in the news & to gain good publicity. It's not what helping people is about.

she is taking advantage of those poor children with the whole kabbalah thing it makes me feel sick

I hate how they are treating adopted kids as fashion accessories, they need to sort out there priorites, do they want to be fashionable or good mothers?

Madonna has adopted African child: reports

LONDON (Reuters) - Pop star Madonna was at the center of a fresh adoption mystery on Wednesday after new reports she has adopted a one-year-old African boy.
Britain's Sun newspaper on Wednesday splashed a picture of the American singer dressed in a safari hat and smiling, with a young child it said she had chosen at an orphanage in Malawi strapped to her back.
A spokeswoman for the singer in London would only say: "At this time we are unable to give you official confirmation. We may have an official statement within 48 hours."
Last week, a spokeswoman for Madonna denied a Reuters report quoting officials in the southern African state saying that the performer had adopted a one-year-old orphan boy.
The Sun and the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday that Madonna had chosen 13-month-old David Banda, whose mother died of complications after giving birth.
The boy's father, Yohane Banda, 32, was quoted in both newspapers as saying: "I am very happy. As you can see there is poverty in my village."
Banda, who said he could not afford to bring up his son, did not meet Madonna but was told his boy was being adopted by a "famous U.S. musician".
He said: "I know he will be very happy in America. We are told David will be coming back regularly to know his roots."
Madonna, who already has a son and daughter, was looking after David in an upscale lodge in Malawi's capital, Lilongwe, according to the Sun.
The 48-year-old singer and her film director husband Guy Ritchie plan to raise the child at their homes in Britain and the United States once the legal adoption process is completed, it said.

Angelina Jolie, fanning Smith & Wesson: 'There 'aint room enough for the both of us on this bandwagon'...

So it's official that Madonna did adopt an African boy.
I think the whole thing is just ridiculous! Madonna has gotten more and more eccentric over the years.

Yep just saw it on the news last night.. I really don't get it! But good on the little boy.

She´s adopting the kid. Maybe she is a millionaire and maybe because of that she won´t be adding much work to her schedule by doing that, but anyhow, it doesn´t mean it´s a bad action per se. Adopting a kid, when he lives in an orphanage is always a good action, and it takes love.
Is she doing it because it´s a trend? I don´t know. Anyhow it looks like one of the least damaging trends around. I´m not defending Madonna, but there´s so much to criticise to celebrities, adoption should be last on that list.
If she is gonna be a good mum or a lousy one, we don´t know.
She gets publicity by doing it, that´s for sure. But then again how can Madonna do anything without being scrutinized by the entire world?

Why did she adopt him if the baby still has a family?

It would've been better to help his father to support his child rather than taking the baby away.
Poor thing. He will think about that one day and resent her for that.

Maybe the dad couldn´t or didn´t want to raise the kid himself, we really can´t know. All I´m saying is adoption is not bad in itself, and maybe the kid will be better off with people that want to be their mum and dad. That´s the point of adoption, otherwise why are kids given for adoption? Isn´t there almost always someone remaining in their families (an aunt, an older brother, a dad)?
But the point is sometimes the family doesn´t want to raise a kid, because they´re poor or simply because they want to do something else with their lives and don´t want the responsability of raising a child on their shoulders.
That´s why adoption is there, to give abandoned kids the chance to have a family.
Some adopted kids, when they grow up they love their new family, and some don´t. The same with natural-born kids, some adore their parents, and some hate them with all their hearts. But it´s not only in the act of adopting or giving birth where love is shown. It´s in loving the kid, taking care of him, raising him.
If Madonna is going to love this kid or not we just don´t know. Some people like to think she´s not gonna love him and that the fact of adopting him is pure selfishness and not much than a publicity stunt.

I prefer to hope that she is really doing because she and her family think they can give this kid a new family. Call me a dreamer if you like.

Madonna adoption divides Malawi

The "fast-tracking" of the adoption of 13-month-old David Banda by US pop diva Madonna is causing controversy in Malawi.

Madonna's charity set up its own orphanage during her visit

While some say it is a good thing that would ease the plight of Malawi's estimated one million Aids orphans, others fear it could set a bad precedent.
"We must be frank we can't afford to look after the thousands of babies that are being orphaned every day," says Mirriam Nyirongo, a retired nurse who runs an orphanage in the northern city of Mzuzu.
"If rich people like Madonna take just one child, it will be a major boost for Malawi. People like Baby David, when they come to know their roots, might wish to do the same to others."
But Maxwell Matewere, Executive Director of child rights group Eye of the Child, said his organisation is appealing to the government to reconsider the adoption.
"Madonna might have good intentions but we must follow the law to the letter to avoid a situation where criminals with money might take advantage to abuse our children," he said.

Unrealistic
Mr Matewere said his organisation wants the government to delay the adoption granted by the courts "for further consultations".
Under Malawian law, couples must normally wait 18 months before being allowed to adopt but a judge has given Madonna temporary custody during her two-week stay in the country.

Mr Matewere also said international adoptions were not currently allowed, although the law was being considered.

"If parliament adopts the recommendations it will be good because it means children like David, who are up for international adoption, would enjoy full legal rights, meaning that the country of adoption would participate in the monitoring and assessment of their progress and welfare," he said.
Under current laws, Malawian child welfare officers must be assigned to track Baby David's progress wherever Madonna and her husband Guy Ritchie take the baby.
Under the judge's temporary order, if Baby David is being treated differently from Madonna's other two children, the order would be revoked and permanent custody withdrawn.
Mr Matewere points out that while the condition is intended to protect Baby David, it is unlikely to be implemented, since Malawi does not have the resources to fly child welfare officers to track highly mobile people like Madonna.
Roots
The issue has also been hotly debated on the streets, during radio phone-ins and by the local press.
"I wouldn't have my baby adopted by anybody, however rich they may be," said Angela, 18, who was sitting exams when the Madonna circus was in town. Malawi has an estimated 1m Aids orphans

"Planting a black boy from a poor background into a white rich family will have a disastrous effect on the baby's psyche later in life."

Elina, who was listening as the girls studied for the exams in the central district of Mchinji, where Baby David was "discovered" by the pop diva, disagrees.
"A one-year-old will not be affected by this," she reasoned.
"At that age he knows nothing. It would even be great if he does not come to know where they got him from."
But if the adoption does go ahead, it would indeed be a shock for David to leave his mother's London mansion or her exclusive Malibu Beach condo for the mud-and-thatch hut in his biological father's Lipunga village in Mchinji.
But the father, Yohane Banda, 32, said Madonna promised to take David "to know his roots" when he grows older.
While the lawyers argue in court and David waits for his Malawian passport and visas, he is in the custody of the remnants of Madonna's travelling party.
A source at the Home of Hope orphanage, where he has been since he was two weeks old, said the woman at the orphanage who has been looking after David, was taken to the exclusive cliff-top ranch where Madonna stayed in the capital, Lilongwe, to help him get used to his new parents.
Madonna has also flown in a baby psychology nurse from London to help the process.
