Makeup counter pet peeves

I think that's actually rather sad.. I've worked in a homeless shelter before and (unless that particular lady is simly off her rocker) using a washbasin to wash.. wherever one could find one.. is a tactic used to keep oneself clean.

This used to happen where I used to work ... they put up signs ... I think it was mostly the men's room. I didn't realize this before, but apparently Muslims who pray 5 times a day are also supposed to wash first. I think it's hands and feet, or something like that ... awkward in a bathroom with just sinks to say the least. Do women do the prayers too? I'm not sure

I get fed up w/ these SAs telling me I'm 'warm' and insist on me wearing bronze or gold or that sort of hue. I know my skintone and what looks best on me.

It's so annoying when they arrogantly behave as though they know what's best for you ... I have come right out and said before (when shopping for foundation), "My skin is very pink, I like it, I don't want to fight it--I want to match it. No yellow, it goes orange on me." This was at MAC, and what did she do?! Sold me the warm instead of the cool, which I then promptly returned. But I'd had to use it at least once, so they had to damage it out (or I hope they did :innocent:)

Ugh, most of the SAs at the Sephora in my mall are so rude. They completely ignore any "young" looking costumers because they probably assume that we're only there to play with the testers and not actually buy anything (I'm 19). And if I ask one of them for help they just point me towards a direction while they spend so much time politely assisting all the "older" costumers.

Of course they do, but most of the Muslims I know skip the washing bit as there are nowhere to do it when they're at work or in school. I think it's pretty sad that they give up on praying eventually.

I fear some of the MAC ladies. They put on SO much makeup, and it just looks ugly and uneven. I never let them test anything but concealer on me. :ninja:

its like when you see a hairdresser with bad hair, you dont want to go to a makeup counter where the assistant has bad make up, tide marks and bad fake tan

i hate it when the young sale assistants think they are better/hotter than me (or anyone else) when i walk up into their section!

I hate when I dont need their help and they just try and help .. I say 'no' and they STILL try and help , I said NO dont look at my face[ bad skin day] they still look at it. ahh **** off I can buy my own things.

at some places the SA's will jump to different counters...if they are even paying attention. they usually are too busy gossiping so i have to ask them myself. thank god i have friends working as MKA's so i can always as them if im lucky enough to see them working.

Well as far as having M.A's missing from counters.....it's not always their fault! At a lot of department stores they won't hire enough artists. For example: At the sears near where I live, they only allow ONE employee for the Make Up Forever counter which is by far one of the most popular counters.....now that poor girl can't possibly be there from opening-close every single day. It's like that for a lot of department store counters, which also explains M.A's who don't really know the products/aren't much help....a lot of the time, they're filling in at a counter for someone else and thus don't know that line very well. Department stores are notorious for ****ing over the cosmetics departments by not allowing them to hire enough people then bitching at them for having low sales figures.
Sorry if I sound defensive but I've worked at makeup counters, just trying to explain some of your pet peeves. Try to understand and be patient because retail and especially doing retail in the beauty industry, you deal with a lot of angry and rude customers all day for very little pay. It's hard to please everyone everytime, we're human too.
lol We have a whole list of makeup counter customer pet peeves ourselves :P

I don't go to make up counters.

I prefer Sephora and Ulta. That way I can ask if I need any help with anything.

I hate when I go to a counter already knowing exactly what product I want and just want 2 min to browse through the colors and the sales person goes off on a 5 min explanation of what the product does. I know they're trying to be helpful but when you already know what you want it's annoying

One of my biggest pet peeves is going to MAC and them giving me beginners lectures, about palettes and brushes and all that kind of stuff. I don't need to have the whole litany on how the products work, I know how they work. At least when I got my makeup done there the last time, the girl and I talked more about favourite products and all that kind of stuff.

The girls at my MAC counter are tanorexic, and have have wrinkles in their early 20s. Add to that the fact that they cake on foundation and can't blend...not pretty. My bf's sister is a makeup artists and when she saw them she started making fun of them.

goregeous, no worries im always nice to them. i can tell they are understaffed. im okay with waiting until they are done with another customer but i dont appreciate when there are several makeup artists standing around gossiping when they are supposed to be helping customers/paying attention.

i hate how when your looking at makeup they quickly run up to u and ask u for help or stare at you like ur about to steal something !!! grrr

I mean I'm 20 and I have some wrinkles...but I think part of it has to do with the lighting in the stores. I like to shop at the freestanding that is at the outdoor mall, because they have a wall of windows, meaning more natural light and less of the too-dark foundation.

MA's who insist on "trying" a couple of different shades on you, even when you've told them which one you are. Especially annoying when you tell them you came to the exact same counter to be colour checked  But then you get that little happy feeling when they admit you were right (and the annoyance of having orange makeup smudge off of your face)

Went up to Chanel Stall in the HK airport and the chick was too busy putting on her own makeup she didn't notice the bunch of us there
